We just grout them and abandon in place. If it isn't exposed to weather, you can probably skip grouting.

 

Closer every day ya'll. Inspection for temporary CO Monday. Just a few things to finish up for a final. After we get moved in and all the dust settles I might try to compile a house "build thread". Something to document the insanity of the last 8 months.


This is just primed, but the dining room is the first room to feel like we're almost there.




The kitchen is coming together nicely. Gotta mount the microwave/hood this weekend among a million other things. I really wish we could've afforded to do a real, actually functioning hood. But it was one of the compromises we had to make along the way to be able to afford this thing. So, stupid microwave BS filter hood it is.

Odd place for a half wall. What's the plan for that area?

 

We always drill all the way through the slab and when we're done with an anchor it gets pounded down flush or through the slab.

 

Set the anchor below the surface and when not in use plug it with a allen bolt that would be flush with the surface. Keeps the dirt out and no trip hazzard. If they lose their grip pound them through and drop in a new one or epoxy them

The hammer drill is going through bits . I am going a bit of overkill with wedge bolts, some tapcons, and adhesive on the bottom plate, but the walls won't move when I am done (I hope).

Goodbye vapour barrier

 

GRK concrete screws FTW , use the thicker shank ones

 

Thanks for the heads up on GRK concrete screws Looks like a good alternative to Tapcon screws. I usually use the GRK cabinet screws on cabinets, but have never tried their concrete screws. Been gluing the treated plate down and placing Tapcons about every 24" with wedge bolts on either side of the doorways. I want my doorways really secure and ready to take abuse if it happens (usually carpet layers and their power stretchers will test the walls). I never have been a fan of shooting pins into the bottom plate and hoping it holds.

I doubt there’s a vapor barrier under the plant.

 

Doing flooring for 15 years they barely work properly anyway.

 

On second thought. I know there’s no vapor barrier under there. Seen the floor torn up and repoured many times and in different places for improvements to the plant.

 

Are french doors a good idea? I have a crappy sliding glass door to my patio that has a lock that doesn't work, so its got two boards holding it shut.
Reason I ask is because my mom's old house had french doors in the back and every time you closed them the whole wall shook. Might've just been bad construction but it's made me leery.
I'd like the french doors so I can move large stuff in and out if need be. If not I'll go with another sliding glass door.

 

I did that at old place. Installed by myself, what a bitch! It lasted raising 2 kids and a house of dogs. Repainted and sold the place.

 

That's the plan. Solo, or rope a friend in. Need to repour the patio slab too, since it seems to have fallen apart from the bottom up and started cracking because of the void.
