I’ve searched TW to see if 265/75/16 tires will fit on a 1st gen. My search brings up 3rd gen stuff.

Anyone have any recommendations for 1st gen tire size in a good AT tire.

Yep 265/75/16 is the biggest tire you can fit with no lift.

As @DustStorm4x4 mentioned, those will fit just fine, generally. Once you get larger than that, or if you're going crazy with stance, it's going to depend not only on tire size, but also on wheel selection and type of lift.

For a good discussion of what you'll need to consider, as well as what you'll need to do in terms of clearancing for various tire sizes, check out this article: What size tires fit my lifted Tacoma?

As far as a good AT tire go, you're going to get a ton of different answers. Personally, I like the Duratrac, and a lot of other folks like KO2's. Whatever you get, you're going to want to be sure to get a C-load, rather than E-load tire - they will ride much nicer on pavement, and are of course much lighter.

I have 265/75/16 on my third gen. Just didn’t think those would fit a 1st. I have the 7J stock wheels on the 1st gen I’m looking at. I work construction and do frequently traverse through ruts and off-road scenarios but nothing crazy.

Is this rubbing occasionally with 265/75/16?

265/75/16 will fit a 1st gen. Depending on the tire, you may have some contact at full lock. I did not experience any tire rub when I had 265/75/16 KO2s on the stock wheel. Wheel will play a HUGE role - you need to factor in backspacing. Your best bet - stick with the stock wheel or a wheel with 4.5 - 4.625" backspace.

    Hell I don’t think I can find ko2 265/75/16 in C or D. Only E load range.

You can find a Duratrac in that size. I just put some on my 3rd gen 4Runner, and they're great.

No that was stock tire size for the TRD models. I had it on my old 98 prerunner no rubbing ever.

Do you have to lift / level to run a 255/85/16? Thinking about going with that size next. Just not sure with it being taller if it would need to be leveled out or not

Thanks for the question. I am also looking for a set of tires for my first generation Tacoma today. Thought I wanted a set of ko2 kinda more for the “look”. Do not want e load rated tires and bfg doesn’t make my tire size 265/70/16 in a c rating. Not sure what to do now. But I I know I don’t have a good reason to move up to 75’s. Any suggestions will be a big help.

What about general tire at2? Pretty much the same tread pattern just different sidewalls from the K02s. P rated too so it’ll ride nice. https://www.amazon.com/General-Grabber-AT2-Radial-Tire/dp/B004QL60YE

OME suspension lift 882 coil overs Aftermarket UCAs and upper ball joints with zerks Arb bumper with warn winch All new dakkar leaf springs Diff drop kit Suspension parts purchased at wheelers off road 32” all terrains and nicer bullet hole rims.
Also on the market for new rubber, possibly new wheels. I did OME kit with 883's and dakars, diff drop kit for front. Not sure how much lift I got, never took measurements. Guessing 2-4" Wheelers guy said biggest tire that will fit on the stock alloy rims is 275/75/16 but i can't even find that size tire anywhere. I dunno what i'm going to get yet. I ordered a ARB deluxe bumper yesterday I suppose I will wait and slap that on before I get the tires, not trying to hijack the thread but let me know what you folks think. Should I run 33's on a my DD?

TRD package here - stock tires for me were 265/70/16 - not sure if it differed by year (2002 here)

I believe the Bridgestone Revo 3 are available in a c rating as well as e. Fairly agressive tread pattern. Give em' a look.

@turbodb included a link to an article he put together with excellent info on tires sizes and can you 'run it' - see post 3 above.

Thanks, I’ll be checking on both the Generals and Bridgestones. In doing my due dillegence in buying tires, I’ve run across a couple of tire dealers here in Bham, that are not at all recommending the KO2 because of out of round issues that seem to be quite persistent. People will still buy them but, possibly at their own risk. Hard to believe...but one dealer has 30 such tires that is having difficulty getting any remediation.
