Can the URD stage 1 Rotrex S/C kit for the 2005-2011 V6 4.0L tacoma be modified/fitted to a 2012-2015 tacoma V6 4.0L? If so, I'm assuming the tuning flash wouldn't work. However maybe with a UCON and the proper configuration URD might be able to work something out. Anyone know if this has been done and if there is a tuning solution for this without going to a custom map? Anyone have any contacts at URD that could provide some information or answer some of these querstions? According to Rotrex's website there is a company in Columbia who has a kit (TurboTek) but I cant seem to find any info on it and I'm not sure what kind of support, if any, they would be able to provide anyway.

Rotrex site with list of kits: https://www.rotrex.com/centrifugal-superchargers/toyota/toyota-tacoma/

This is the Rotrex S/C they use in both kits, the C38-81:

Yes, the URD Rotrex kit could be fitted to the 2012-2015 trucks with the removal or relocation of the secondary air injection stuff.

In fact the newly released HPTuners MPVI2 flashing unit (https://www.hptuners.com/mpvi2/) you can tune the vehicle for the kit, and disable the CEL resulting from removal of the secondary air injection garbage if your truck happens to be for "off-road use only". However the UCON which is available for the 2012-2015 trucks could still be used, but it does not have the ability to take care of any CEL related to the relocation/removal of the secondary air injection hardware.

I'm not aware of anyone doing it, but I certainly have given it thought.. It's possible it could end up on my truck but I'd prefer to install the Whipple.

By "You can tune..." I'm assuming you mean I can take the truck to a tuner and get a custom tune. I'd like to avoid that scenario if possible having had experience with that before with my other vehicle being an STi. I wouldn't be opposed to removing the SAS and if using the HPTuner will take care of the CEL it should be as simple as ripping that out and fashioning some block-off plates or finding some 3rd party ones, if those exist. Mind if I ask how you know it'll work? I'm assuming there's a post buried in here somewhere where someone has done it. Why would you prefer the whipple? From what I've been able to find the Rotrex has more potential for power with a few add-ons (exhaust, intake, headers) and according to URD's site has better stats in a "out of the box" configuration. The only real benefit I see in the whipple is maintaining the factory warranty, and that's if you can find a dealer that will do the installation. This option would be great but I think you would be hard-pressed to find one still willing.

By you can tune, you can do it if you have the knowledge/skill. Or take it to a professional. There are a lot of people out there that claim to be professional, even shops. Be cautious with your selection and be sure to get a dialogue going to assess if this person/shop is going to give your truck the attention necessary to properly map your setup. I can assure you there are folks out there who do a good job.

Yes, HPT can take care of the CEL for any emissions components removed (for off-road use). And there are currently block-off plates for the SAI being made by @Roostfactor.

While I've not fitted the URD kit to a 12+ truck yet (HPT literally just came out), but I've spent a great deal of time working with this software on our application (probably more than anyone other than HPT staff at this point) and have things pretty well figured out. I worked with HPT to get the Toyota specific enhanced PID's integrated into the built in logger, allowing unrestricted access to the logging of any/all parameters. With the current tools made available to us with HPT, I CONFIDENTLY believe the URD kit could be fitted to a 12+ truck without issue.

Gadget himself has stated that the only reason it's not available, is because the SAI takes up space otherwise occupied by the kit.

My choice for a Whipple over the Rotrex is less about power, but those reasons are my own. And my truck is no longer under warranty :)

Let's also not confuse the Whipple from the Magnuson.

It's my hope URD releases a Whipple for the single VVTi 1GR-FE. :)

My bad, I assumed they were similar form factors but just did a little research and now I'm quite intrigued. URD makes a whipple kit for the 2010-2014 FJ Cruiser... I'm wondering if they would be willing to work one out for the 2012-2015 tacoma since they don't currently have a rotrex kit for those years. They asked about interest in this forum post but no one ever jumped on that train. If they did I wouldn't hesitate, take my $$$.

There are rumors he is working on it.

If URD we're more active on Tacoma World, they would likely have more input.
