You are 100% correct. To pay for an revised tune makes absolutely no sense. I only learned this was an ALPHA by learning about the Thread after purchasing the tune and having it not work properly with my ECU. Obv every Tacoma isn't created equal because my ECU for some reason or another being all factory doesn't respond the same as others and the tune in my opinion should be done on a truck with factory gearing and tire size. Then there could be specific tunes for modified vehicles. I'm not Ovtune nor do I try to tell them how to do their job. But what I do know is Mat is doing a great Job with follow up even if it takes a little time. The only thing that should be clear when purchasing is that it is a work in progress.

I sit on the fence with this one. When you by MS Windows (if you buy), you don't get updates free in perpetuity. When you buy Mac, you do get updates free in perpetuity, so far. So, clearly there are different and equally viable licensing models for essentially the same thing (arguments aside regarding 'equal').

I'm happy as a clam getting updates, and do recognize that with the level of improvement Mat's provided so far, the free updates seem warranted. He did say 'free for life'. But once the tune is essentially settled in and he's squeezed 95% of the juice, I can see updates moving to a subscription or fee model when he adds new features.

I’m a huge fan of the 91 Base tune while running 93 octane. For me, the 93 tune was better for spirited driving but it didn’t seem to work well for normal driving.
I do not notice a difference between 93 and 91 tunes when driving aggressively, but the 91 is much smoother for my daily drive.

    My truck HATES Shell fuel.

Totally Agree when the product is 100% usable with no flaws. It would only make sense charge to produce different tune models or vehicle specific tunes. But as for now it is still a tune in the making. Like i said I support the build even though mine is a Lease and ill be limited on enjoyment. lol

So, I've been watching this from the beginning. I've finally bit the bullet and jumped in. Thanks Matt.

Technically it's not alpha anymore. That was a long time ago but I can't update the thread title.

Second, all standard updates are free. That means, anything we work on as an update, fix, improvement, for everyone, is free.
The way I see it is, the more the community supports us by buying and using our product, the more we can provide to everyone without additional cost.

Really? that's all I've been running and it has been good so far. Maybe I'll try another brand just for kicks.

Did some towing yesterday on the 93 Perf+GL with a 5k trailer. Holy crap!! 1st gear pulls like there’s not even a trailer there. RPMs stayed low and had plenty of power left. Awesome job @OVTune!

How is the 87 perf tune in heavy traffic? I commute about 15-20 hours a week 95% highway, but likely avg 15 miles per hour, that’s how bad the traffic is. Want to make sure I pick a tune that won’t add to fatigue.

Ok I got my tune kit yesterday haven't done anything yet but I'm I mistaken that the very first thing you do is hook the tune up to the laptop to get the ID from the laptop then send the info out with your truck year model ect.

Very first thing you do is read the instructions, second thing you do is read it again.
