Got my first oil change on Fri at 4,400 in the TRD OR. I have asked the dealer about this and asked on here and so far I've gotten nowhere. With the dealer I get it but with all the "experts" on here I would think someone else has experienced this. So if I am on the steep driveway of my friend's house or going over say a railroad crossing that is real steep....if I stop mid incline and take my foot off the brake every other automatic trans I have had will catch itself after rolling back 2 or so inches...this thing will just keep on rolling back like I am in N or R...I go to the gas and it makes an odd grinding sound and my VSC light on the dash comes on....it feels almost like the truck starts to apply its brakes AFTER I go to the gas....Doesn't anyone on here have a steep drive or anything and has experienced this in a 3rd Gen? The dealer gave me that whole we tired to duplicate it but could not bull shit....aren't they SUPPOSED to be the experts on these trucks? Shouldn't they know what the VSC system is all about? Why wouldn't the auto trans on these trucks catch themselves from rolling back; every other auto trans I have ever had does. BTW....save all the advise that is along the lines of....well don't drive on inclines....which is the sort of responses that I got when I asked about why these trucks have so much nose dive under braking I got...well don't brake so hard then....Some really immature dudes on this forum.

What you’re describing is normal for TRD ORs since 2005.

You’re on a steep hill, it’ll roll. Mine does it too. The low idle RPM’s aren’t enough to sustain the weight of the truck.

I've never seen an automatic car that won't roll back on a hill in drive. VSC, ABS, and crawl control all sound scary the first time you hear them, but that's the normal sound for the truck.

Any idea why it makes such an odd sound when this happens. Comparing it to say the truck I traded in for this one which was a 2010 F150 4x4 super crew if you took your foot off the brake in these same situations it would roll back a few inches only then when you go to the gas to drive up the incline there was no odd grinding sound it would just drive forward....I think its the sound that it makes that makes me feel like I am tearing something up.

My driveway isnt too steep but enough so that if its in neutral, it will roll down. And if I just reverse the Truck in park, it will creep forward a little so thats why I apply the parking break all the time.

It’s using the ABS to actuate the brakes.

The rear is super light in these trucks. I’ll start spinning at the most random times. The f150 was probably heavier and what not. What you’re having isn’t anything to be troubled about.

    It's hill start assist...
I think F-150s received this feature in 2012.
Here's a description from the FSM for the hydro boosted models(Offroad/Pro).

Was the slip indicator light solid or blinking?

You are describing how Hill-Start assist works on my OR.

You need to find a spot where you can safely test it to understand exactly what it does, like a business loading dock or something.
On mine, it will roll opposite to the transmission selection (forward if in reverse and backward if in drive) on pretty minor hill. This seems to particularly occur more than other automatics I have, I assume because it set up to reduce engine drag (reduce emissions) when idling in drive.

Mine rolls back about 6 inches (much more than the hill hold on my other equipped manual vehicles), then abs fires and stops the roll, then after a few seconds it starts to roll again. (I assume so you can let it roll backwards on a hill off road).

Try it out where you can let it roll...
