Here’s my co-pilot. He enjoys riding shotgun. The Weimaraners were developed as a versatile dog - hunt, track, kill, (large and small game) and retrieve small game. They are intelligent, extremely loyal, and fearless in protecting their family from human and animal threats.

No, actually his name is Chance (nickname “The Professor”) as he is quite intelligent. After getting sprayed by the first skunk that he killed, he learned to kill skunks without getting sprayed (unlike my lovable English Setter.) He also has displayed enough sense not to attack a porcupine, (unlike my lovable English Setter). Here’s The Professor with one of his woodchucks.

First day I got Chance (age 6), I was watching a bear hunting program on my wide screen TV. Chance casually walked into the den as a huge black bear was walking across a river via a large blowdown. Upon seeing the bear he growled and attacked the TV. Fortunately I had the remote control in my hand and I immediately changed stations. Chance became confused and looked behind the TV set, trying to figure out where the bear went. Since then he has accepted the tv as harmless entertainment for humans and pretty much ignores it.

My lab will also eat anything but if I need to get pills down him I use cheese slices. Never met a dog that wouldn't eat cheese. My other dog hates dog food so eats with my wife (veg)
My Basenji had Fanconi syndrome and had to have 20-30 (thats not a mistake) pills a day, keep her alive for 5 years.

I saw this little girl sitting in a US Army ambulance for the 80's at the local car show. Sweet as can be.

Here's my English Setter Kota (The Warrior) reflecting on the sunset. Unlike my Weimaraner, Kota is convinced he can get the better of a porcupine and still attacks them, believing he will prevail. Thus when I take him in the woods a Leatherman multi-tool is on my hip- once had to remove about 60 quills from his mouth/tongue/cheeks. Fortunately he lets me remove quills despite pain, otherwise I'd have major vet bills. Also, unlike my Weim, Kota still doesn't know how to kill a skunk without getting sprayed. Fortunately skunks are relatively scarce in my area.

    DSC_2287.jpg

Kota spent most of his youth airborne- here he's playing with my late Yellow lab who lets him know that despite her age, she still has a few good moves:

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
They were also bread to be guard dogs as well. One of the most loyal breeds you can find. I have had Weims my whole life.

This is my weim. He has an awsome nose but is unfortunately gun shy.

F9F59FE9-777F-4EF9-9088-9535230EB6A3.jpg Fortunately my 2 Weims came from a breeder who specializes in developing hunting skills and her dogs are not gun shy. You’re lucky to have enjoyed their companionship throughout your life. I got my first Weim (male) about 6 years ago, as a companion for my Setter. The breeder talked me into getting a second Weim (female- photo above) about 4 years ago. Thus, have 3 dogs right now. I think 2 is a better number, but each is a great dog in their own way. My oldest Weim is the alpha dog, protecting the other 2 if they get into trouble. He also places himself between me and strangers. He doesn’t get testy, he just stands a couple yards in front of me, between me and the stranger until I tell him it’s OK. They do have phenomenal noses. I watched my young female zero in on a pheasant, about 80 yards away. I followed her in but the bird never flushed. The bird that flushed was a red tail hawk that had just killed the pheasant. Such is life when you journey afield with these great dogs! If I live long enough, my next dog will be another Weim.

Got caught in traffic due to an accident on I10 adn then they had the causeway down to one lane due to fog and a 45mph speed limit. I was following Mr. I’m just gunna do 30mph just to be safe, for 26 miles on the bridge...
So you may ask what does this have to do with “Let’s see your dogs” thread...
    Here is the guilty one...
    19F35A41-B380-45F0-A113-4348EA04DE3E.jpg
And as it took and extra 1 1/2 hours to get to where we needed to go, he found something new to play with in the truck...
    C1585979-BFC1-441A-9AC2-890C45D74351.jpg
There will be no more sitting in the middle seat in the back....
He has never chewed anything but his toys or sticks, so I guess he was just as frustrated as me this morning.
It would be fair to say, I bear some responsibility on this, as I have been meaning to put the dog seat cover in that I have, but have been procrastinating...

We strap the dogs in seatbelts when able. We just got a hatchback that has good room for dog crates. Lots can happen in a car ride
