Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
You need to get the drum off so you can get the axle out of the bearing.

To get the shackle lift on, you should lift on the frame so you can manipulate the spring better.

Did you get the drum off? I had a hell of a time getting my "02" drums off this last weekend while putting in my powertrax.

Spray the piss out of the holes around the studs and also around the middle. Beat the shit out of it with a hammer. Put two threaded bolts in the threaded holes and push it out.

I'm going to state some things that may be obvious to you if you already know them, but just in case...

There are two seals. One is near the bearing and one is in the axle housing. If you're only replacing the seals because of the leak, it is going to be the one in the axle housing that is leaking. The seal for the bearing is to keep the grease in the bearing.

If you dont have any wheel bearing noise or movement, I'd skip replacing it unless you really want to. It is hydraulically pressed in and needs to be pressed back out, so unless you have the means to do that yourself, you're going to be paying a shop to do it for you. It'll probably cost you the same if you take it apart or not.

As for the drum, as suggested above, the two screw method is the only one I've found to be reliable. M8x1.25 if memory serves correct. You can also try to back off the brake adjuster a little with a couple screwdrivers, which may help some as well (should be pretty easy with the axle out).

thanks for the help! the inner seal was leaking but it was about time for the wheel bearing too and it had a slight chatter with free play, last time i had a bearing go out on the free way the little balls carved a path of destruction

i got everything squared away and i left it at a shop to get pressed out and a new one in, however they worry me because half an hour later they asked where the bearing goes

i asked them a question but due to me constantly correcting the service manager and the issue stated above ill ask it here. since our axle seals arent the best in the world would it be beneficial to put locktite around the new inner seal?

I don't think there is a quality issue with the axle seals. I wouldn't add any extra sealant, it's not going to hold up to anything that the seal wouldn't hold up to on it's own. There is also a large o-ring between the axle shaft housing and the brake backing plate. It should be replaced, but at the very least, clean it and the groove it rests in.
