285/70r17 rubbing upper control arm

Just put on a set of yokohama geolander g003 285/70r17 tires friday, put on a 2 inch lift spacer in the front and headstrong 3 leaf add a leafs in the rear for lift. But the tires are hitting the upper control arm at almost full turn, mostly saw people rubbing on the cab mount when researching this set up not upper control arms. Im assuming i need wheel spacers or different offset wheels, maybe aftermarket uppers? Any help is appreciated.

Truck looks good. The cheapest way to fix it will be a wheel spacer. More $$$ but probably a little better way to go would be your wheels or UCA.

 

Any idea if 4runner pro wheels have an offset that would keep me from rubbing, i would rather do that than spacers.

 

Nah you need neg offset for more clearance. I run -10mm. A spacer will work too. Pro is 0

 

From what ive found so far it looks like sport wheels are +30 mm offset
offroad wheels are +25 mm
pro 4 runner wheels are +4 mm
pro taco wheels are 0 mm
so the difference between sport wheels and pro 4 runner wheels is 26mm which is alittle more than an inch farther out than my stock wheels. If im understanding offsets right. I dont mess with this stuff much just watched a video to find out how it works.

 

The lower the number the more it sticks out. 0 will be flush with the flare. Negative will bring it out more as will the spacer.

 

Replace the upper arms and add spacers or different rims. Good luck.

 

I did my lift today, as well as added a larger tire. Same issue with new SPC UCA. I'm just going to space it out until I can afford new wheels.... However, Anyone know where to start size wise? and do you have to do all four wheels?

 

The 4Runner pro SEMA 17” wheels have about 1” more negative offset than stock Sport 17” wheels. That might be the answer OP is looking for.

 

Will need to run at least 1" spacers to clear the wheel studs. I personally would run all 4 to make them look even but it's not necessary.

 

You are right with all above. The further you push out the more likely you will rub in fender well/cab mount. So I wouldn't go to far +4 or 0 should be good. As for wheel spacers 3/4 or 1" would work. Your factory sport wheels have pockets between stud holes, so 3/4 spacers will work. You will want your caster to be as close to 2.5/3.0 to clear cab mount/backside of fender well, the further you poke/push wheel out to clear upper control arm. If you still have a clearance/caster problem, then you may need new upper control arms. 285/70's are a tough one, on fitting these trucks. Tons of threads about them, with fitment issues.

 

I was looking at my friends Tacoma yesterday and he has 16x8 -20 volks on them seemed really close to the brake calipers. With the -38 offsets SCS sells I’m wondering how they don’t scrape the calipers?

 

Before I lifted my 18 TRDOR with 265 70 17 T4R pro wheels no issue at at all. Now lifted 2.75" with 285 70 17 KO2's, Methods 0 offset +3 caster no rubbing. It's all about the offset on your wheels

Offset has nothing to do with rubbing the calipers. It’s the wheel disk type that would affect that (design of wheel face). If you look at the -20 and 0 offset 16x8 Volks there is no difference of how they are near the caliper.

 

Did you ever figure out the right offset to go with to prevent rubbing on the upper control arm? I'm in the same boat right with 285's and stock wheels on my 2019 tacoma trd sport 4x4.

I'd like to have an offset that will prevent rubbing and not require a CMC or a lot of plastic trimming.

 

No rubbing on your UCA? I just bought 285/70/17 KO2 with same method but haven’t mounted the tires yet because I keep hearing about the uca and cab rubs

 

I have this setup with SPC UCA's and was able to fit everything with an adjusted caster which isnt ideal. You can also fix this by adding spacers but this will drastically increase the amount of rub on the rear plastic.

 

So I have 2017 trd ord and just bought King 2.5 ext with Spc’s and icon multi rate leaf spring and have Method wheels Specs (17x8.5 6x5.5 0/4.75”) with 285/70/17. Currently on leveling kit and stock uca’s with no issues with rubbing that I’ve noticed. Would I run into rubbing issues with that wheel setup on that lift? Already planning on cab mount chop to pervert rubbing there but worried if I’m gonna run into UCA rubbing.
