Well that is "bizarre" in my experience. Granted, my Taco older, but other Toyota were newer. Never had "adaptive" cruise, but none of them like to force WOT or even hard acceleration unless on steep grades. I told Brandon to feather foot instead of "sending everything", and you can do better - but both of your cruise don't operate like most I have had. Could I beat cruise if I wanted? Yes. But I'd rather pay attention to what I see than the speedo (which I constantly check anyway). A properly operating cruise should be within one MPG of what you can do.

Maybe that's the deal - I haven't had a manual since our 88 Xtra Cab = it didn't like cruise in less than perfect conditions.... But Brandons Prius - that's not right. It should be hard to beat it's computer.

And, ah yes - the Hill Country drive! That's going to have an impact on cruise. But both of yours seem to want to be "adjusted" - there is (or was) a speed seek setting that is supposed to make the change to "floor it" far less obvious.

 

I notice it adding more throttle than I would, so today was the non-cruise experiment. I'll continue to not use the cruise to observe if I continually post improved mileage

 

It's like the stretch of 281 in between Burnet and lampass it's straight with a slight incline the whole 23 miles and the cruise control will keep it at 3/4 gas to maintain speed I can give it less then half gas and it does same speed I don't know why the CPU wants to stay on the gas that hard

 

You being new and under warranty, I would have dealer look into that. No offense, but it should be HARD to beat the computer that bad with a Prius. Probably less so in a older Taco, but I'd love to know if they have an explanation.

 

That's kinda what mine does, except if I push the clutch in to shift down, it'll turn off cruise so I have to accept the gear it's in while in cruise, so it is out of the powerband and inputting to much throttleto maintain cruise speed
