I have been finding a lot of the gates to be closed until end of April, was just curious if anybody stayed local after install and had a suggestion. I was thinking Hyalite reservoir but like @JLink said i'm not sure of the snowpack everywhere.

Speaking of heaters, how does one heat the GFC (truck camper not RTT version) when all the panels are in place? I am fine with surviving in my nice sleeping bag but my sleeping companion may not like the cold as much as I ...

My thoughts were to either make a slightly shorter panel (22-23”) to allow air circulation or route a heater hose up through a bottom corner of the back screen door. Now that I’m getting divorced it’s no longer an issue, I always use it in “bunk mode” when by myself so plenty of room for air flow.

We were camped at Dinosaur NM last week for our first night ever in the gfc. We woke up and it was 27 degrees outside. We were in a north face dolomite 2 person sleeping bag and no other source of heat. I wore too many clothes to bed thinking I was in a ground tent, and I was actually too hot!

I think the insulated roof and non breathable fabric really keep the heat in the tent. My gf is always cold, and this was the first camping trip she didn’t complain about being cold at night.

I’m curious where you mounted the heater? I’ve got aGFC on my 1st gen and looking at this heater as an option. Got any pictures of your install?

I’d prefer a 2kw also but couldn’t find one that would ship to Alaska. I plan on making this a portable setup in a pelican type case and having it outside the truck so the 5kw might be better since it will be drawing fresh air and not recirculating heated air. I also have an awning room that I could heat if needed.

I have dual batteries and the only thing the second is hooked to normally is a fridge so I should be good there.

Great question I asked a while back with no response. We’re heading out in June.
Last year we used a could of iPhone apps, like Park Advisor and All Trails along with Gaia GPS. It served us well.

The section of the Custer Gallatin NF I was in had signs saying the roads were open from June 16th to Dec 1st. I was there June 16th and they were still closed. This will help with planning.

@2ayne and @the_tacocamper Mt Haggin WMA is about 2 hours west of Bozeman. I stayed there last summer. It was just me and a rancher off in the distance and the place was amazing. I can't wait to camp there again. When I get to work I'll try and get my camping coordinates. Amazing view.

On another note, I made a cannonball run out to Bozeman Thursday. Drove 4k miles over 4 days from atlanta (3 of them I did solo and wanted to die lol). I have a black truck and have only seen pics of black on black. For anyone wondering what black with grey looks like...IMG_20190405_173535-01.jpg IMG_20190405_173557-01.jpg IMG_20190406_093754-01.jpg

We just stayed at the campground. There were only a couple other people there, and several stopped by to check out my gfc!

It was just a quick stop since we had a day to burn before we met my friend in Moab.

I've noticed that a 50% deposit is now required to get on the Vagabond Drifter 7 month+ waiting list. Are they having cash flow problems? I'd be leery of coughing up $4000+ without it being placed in escrow until delivery. Of course, if it's placed in escrow they can't use your money to fund current operations and your money is secure.
