They heavily salt the roads in Germany in the winter and these trucks have very rust prone frames. Here in the US they’ve bought back and replaced thousands of frames due to this. There was a class action lawsuit. In order to enjoy it for many more years you should crawl under and rust proof it with a product such as Fluid Film. Very popular over here. And it works great because it shields the metal frame from oxygen

    Thanks!

As far as I know, Toyota never offered the Tacoma officially in Europe, so you'll find nearly none of them here. As I bought my car in 1998, it was the first one registered in Germany.

Ha that’s neat. I don’t see many other 1st Gens in Europe. Only other member I know of is @RysiuM

Your truck was built a city over from me in Fremont, California.

Never seen fender flares like that before. They’re unique that’s for sure.

I think Canada version has primary in km and miles in secondary. Us is miles primary and km secondary. I think that was the question about. I have not seen Canadian Tacoma but saw that in other trucks and cars I rented in Canada while on business trips.

@Andrew1968 how do you deal with frame rust for so many years?

My Tacoma came from Halifax to Iceland, so the speedometer is primary in km/h

When the car was modified in Iceland, they put some kind of wax between the fenders and the extensions. But as I started to restore the Tacoma last year and put away the extensions, there was not much left underneath ...

bought plenty of cans of Fluid Film to protect the chassis and the new fenders :) also very popular here, and produced just a few miles away from home ...

which is on top (more dominant) mine has the km underneath the mph, I was just curious ... any pics? also curious how much mileage you have gotten so far!
have you ever driven it outside of your country? France or Belgium? the 16km tunnel in Switzerland

ya the only ones there are probably driven by US military personnel stationed there in the southern parts south of Frankfurt?

When I was planning my move to Poland I thought about selling my Tacoma and buy Hilux in Europe (you know, the Top Gear model), but after deeper research I decided otherwise. Despite all Hilux commercials any 1st gen Tacoma is way better than European Hilux. Hilux was designed primary as a farm vehicle which is more convenient to drive to the city than a farm tractor, Tacoma is an "American pickup truck" designed for the city folks who need to go off road from time to time. It did change recently (at least in Poland ) but these are n-generations of "street" Hilux (still available with wimpy diesel only ).
