My 2016 F150 had rust all over on the underside when it was new. No salt was used around the Portland area.

Of course it rains here about 300 days in some years.

Previous F150’s of model years 1999 and 2004, along with 2001 F250 also had a lot of rust when new.

I sprayed nuts, bolts, frames on all of them with Hammerite or Rustoleum.

My 2017 Tacoma, along with 1998 4Runner and previous Tacoma also had rust when new.

2017 Tacoma with high temp paint on exhaust.

It may be rusting on the inside, but the outside looks good!C09AB83D-ABE5-4D41-9942-97BAF6149367.jpg B231A474-CB23-4043-BFB6-F479E54D4BAB.jpg 5393178D-1425-407C-A643-21BC5CF81B33.jpg 59DD2803-2F76-4CB9-8F78-138E6E436138.jpg8532890C-B066-454A-91E6-1E8E13AE988E.jpg

    Rear drums sprayed with rustoleum.

Helps to keep the inside of your wheels from becoming rust stained over the years.

Just happen to look at my 2017 Tacoma yesterday since it was the first decent day of weather since the winter. What got me looking was I was parked on a concrete driveway for once and the truck had a puddle under it. There was something dripping from the frame and then I looked at the frame all the welds were showing signs of rust. The problem being is that it is surface rust that will eventually it will become worse. Now this is only the stuff i could see on the outside of the channels I do have a scope to look at the inside of the channels. Normally in weld shops when steel gets welded too the steel is blasted and then coated with paint from the looks of it the coating they have on the frame is not doing its job correctly.

When I think about where these frames are made (humid environment) I'm not surprised to see rust around the welds where heat burned off any protective oil film. If the frames were not immediately e-coated they will flash-rust.

It’s obvious- Tacos should be driven in their natural environment, like here:

    Not here:

    Otherwise they have issues...

More maintenance required, anything iron needs that in harsh environments. Used to live where they salted roads in the mountains and would rinse off my undercarriage as often as possible whenever there was a snow event. Didn't know about fluid film though, seems like a good idea.
