In the "full flex" shot what is that under your tire? Is that the oem mudflap?

Nice pictures and the nest is badass.

Seem like it, in the first pic it has the mudflap and then it's gone, probably going backwards climbing the rock for the pic, it happened to me long time ago and never put them back on.

    Badass tent for sure :cool::cool:

lol!!! you nailed it. i dont know what i'm gonna do with the flaps. i like the idea of having them on for protection but they drag on everything when wheeling. you getting any damage from not having them on???

Not so far and I wheel whenever I can, my guess is that if I damage the sheet metal wheeling, the mudflap would be long gone before that.

Cool pics Jared, thanks for sharing.

That camper tent is way cool.

Man I miss woods and hills like that. But I'm old so I don't miss the cold. Although this 120 degree heat index weather is kinda the suk this week here in the Melanoma State. :(

yea, i'm really happy with it. you sleep hanging over the ground and the you can stand up in the bed of the pickup. so much room. it rained 1 night and my buddy and i put a couple lawn chairs in the back a cooler of beer and plugged in a boom box. got pretty drunk. great way to spend a shitty night of campin

I'm starting to get an idea of why the truck tent is better than standard tent. Cold beer at your feet makes me want to live in the woods. Could you explain some other reasons for spending $850? Do you get a pop up tent feel inside? Is it easier than a comparable size standard tent?

i used to have a ford ranger. it had a topper and when i would go camping i would just throw a twin sized matress in the back and sleep on that. all my buddies i'd go with had tents and i would watch them. they would have to find a level spot, kick all the rocks and sticks away then set it up. if it rained they would at least get damp. i would always be dry.then when we were ready to go home they would have to fold it all up and get it in that sack. i would just throw all my campin crap in the back and be ready.

when i got this tacoma i figured i'd just get a matching topper and do the same thing. seemed like the best deal for a used one was $800. then i found out about a topper that had a tent pop out of it called a "flippac". they were about $4000. over my budget. doing my research i found that a company called "wildernest" used to make about the same thing. i looked on craigslist and found one. it was on a 1992 ish toyota. went to check it out and figured "hell, if the tent goes to shit it can still be used like a topper."

i have to tell you it is pretty sweet. you have full standing room in the bed of your pickup. you can set up a kitchen area with chairs and everything. you could use it as a dressing area. so far i just use it as the place where my dog sleeps and where i store all my crap when camping and also a place to party if it rains. the part that flips out is where i sleep. i would say its about the same size as a full matress. its always going to be flat (no rock kicking). the only thing is you have to drive up on some rocks the level it. not a big deal. the best part about it is when the wife and i start have kids they can sleep in there too. they make an inflatable matress that contours the bed if the pickup. i figure we could have 2 kids in the bed of the pickup and us in the top. there is no way you would be able to get a pop-up camper in the places we go camping. now we can still get away from people way back in the hard to get to camping spots and still have some comforts.

    just my opinion though!

i was going to post up..why not a ground tent?..then you went and got all logical on me..:)

i guess the only real downside..you cant set up camp, and then go and do some wheelin/exploring. i like it. i have been keeping an eye out for a used 4wheeler pop up, but even used..the prices are unbelievable.

till then, it is tent camping..or sleeping in my topper.

past camp dick as in up middle st. vrain or did you go toward bunce school road? bunce school road has a good amount of off-shoots and has a good amount of water to drive through after storms...i still haven't made the trip on m.s.v. or coney flats

chinns looks like a great place to camp too, i'll have to check that place out before the winter rolls in up there...

last time i went camping..i was hog hunting with friends. i used my wife's forester. so i packed light. tent, pad, sleepbag. after we set up, we went hunting. when we dragged back to camp..i visited my friend's tent. he had a cot w/nightstand and an asian rug!! the tent was huge, and with the way he set it up..it was like home. putting on camo clothing in a tiny one man tent, in the rain SUCKED! i need to rethink my setup :)

it takes about 10-15 min to set up. bout the same to take down so packing it away and going wheelin is not too much of an issue. but still a hassle
