El Cheapo Heated Mirrors

i tryed looking up by part # but no match, seen another kit on there for 260.00

 

Just look back a couple of pages. A memeber has already gone through the trouble of posting a schematic.

I agree, which is why I shared the Burco Part #'s with everyone. I just picked them up from a local auto glass supplier for around $80.00. Although to some, an $80 saving is worth a bit of extra work

I admire the OP though, as he had to think up the project from scratch. The rest of us just added to his idea

Not sure what to say, that is the number I ordered. Another way to look it up is Toyota Sienna replacement mirror glass. $40 / each.

 

Got a question that I think I know the answer to just want confirmation that I'm an idiot.
When removing the mirror glass there is steel clips on the back... Do both mirrors have 2 clips each or does one mirror only have one?



I'm thinking I lost one somewhere!

 

I seem to remember that one mirror only had one clip, or at the very least had a different style clip(s).

I really can't see losing one in the short distance I moved them but there is a spot on the plastic that looks like it is missing a clip.

 

I just acquired a 09 TRD Access Cab as Shawn will know, and live in Ottawa which gets pretty cold and snowy and was jacked when I saw this heated mirror mod.

I would definitely go for the Sienna/Burco mirrors as they have a much larger element clearing more mirror, and would go with the 15 minute timed switch.

My problem however is that I have no vacant switches that I can use, everything is occupied. Was actually toying with disconnecting the Downhill Assist Control (I think that's what it is) and using that slot.

Anyone come across this problem or have a potential solution?

I had the same problem with not having enough switches. This is the idea I came up with for adding more oem switch slots. A little pricey to do, but it was well worth it.

I actually have the heated side mirrors from a Sienna for sale if anyone is interested. I was going to use them, but ended up going with the Muth ones, with a Highlander switch.
These seem to be a (very) slightly different shape than my 2010 mirrors, and that's why I didn't use them. I know that others with earlier 2nd gens used these Sienna mirrors with no problem.
$80 + shipping for both sides if anyone's interested.

 

Wow! that's quite the mod... and I was going foir a stretch doing just the heated mirror mod as I am not a real electrical guy.

One thing I did notice was that under the center console I have three plugs, one on the far left for something I can't remember and can barely see(still learning my truck and reading the manual), the far right is for an aux plug in for stereo and the center one looks blank. Just not sure I'm comfortable going outside of strict mod instructions already provided. The only one I've done was to put in Daytime Running Lights (DTRL), which I thing was pretty simple as some mods go.

Perhaps I'll see how this winter works out and then weigh how adventerous I have to get to get the heated mirrors. They do look sweet, and I'm sure I could use them. Might have to go over the instructions and wiring diagrams in detail again and make some notes as over the 14 or so pages there was alot of detail. If I undertake, I'll be sure to take notes and photos in case anyone else is interested.

Glad to see now that you have your truck imported/plated your not wasting any time on starting on the mods!

Doesn't the 09 have empty slots below the ash tray in the centre. Could you not put the switch there?

Hey Shawn, yes I noticed I do have one plug under ash tray available. Not sure how much extra work it would take to run the wire there, but think I'm going to poke around and see if I can find mods where the center dash/cover are taken off. Like I mentionned, this would be pretty adventerous for me.

PS liked your idea to use Sienna mirrors.

I think I am going to attempt this mod using the grip heaters. Do you think a relay is still needed if I use the highlander switch? If so, where / which relay do I get? Do you just stuff the relay behind the dash and make sure its well insulated electrically?

I have seen a video / link for taking off the door panels, but nothing about removing the side panels (where your left foot goes) or the grey plastic with all of the switches. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

That's an excellent mod but not something I want to tackle yet on my two week young baby.

This should help with the mirrors, windows and windshield on those awful, below zero icy/snowy mornings here in Illinois.

But again, great mod.

 

Check out the DRL sticky. There is a great write up on how to remove the kick plate etc.

For the $5-$10 for a relay, I would use one. I was the one that had the switch burn out on me.
