Hit a Deer at 60MPH

Not the way I wanted to fill my tag this year, but I hit a deer last night. No damage to the body, but I hit it with the drivers front tire. (glad for the sliders, as I have deer guts splatters up the side of the truck) My steering wheel now points to about three o'clock. It looks like the camber is off also.

No pics, as car is in shop getting aligned. What are the chances that I bent something? Other than the steering wheel, and camber, it drives fine. No shimmies or shakes.

Might want to check for a bent spindle. Sorry to hear about the accident.

 

well its good that you don't have 10k in damage--or that your dead(knock on wood). Your a lucky guy

 

Glad you didn't get hurt. Sounds like you hit a blacktail since you live in Hillsboro. One of the Muley's in Eastern Oregon would have done some serious damange!

 

Sounds like something is bent. Bumps jar adjustments loose, collisions bend and break things. They might be able to adjust it. Ask them what's f-d up so the insurance can take care of it now instead of out of pocket later.

 

Check for a bent spindle.

 

Possibly a bent tie rod as well, which wouldn't account for the camber, obviously.

 

x2 this is no joke! I've seen some damage that a deer has done to some vehicles bad stuff!!

 

I am VERY lucky. We were going to drive Wifey's Volvo. I just got off of the phone with shop doing alignment, and he says he sees nothing bent, but cannot get it back to spec. They have been working on it for better part of 3 hours.

Thanks for all of the advice as to what to look for. As I think back, it could have been much worse. The impact moved me into the other lane. and fortunately, there was no other traffic, or they would be scraping ME and my family off of the road instead of a deer. And thanks to all of the threads about deciding weather to hit the animal, or ditch the car. I am pretty sure I made the right choice.

Whether he sees it or not, if they can't get it back into spec they need to look for what's bent.

 

thanks for the link. just seein what other people are sayin about it. yeah i agree. the life of a rabbit/cat/(even dog saddly) is not worth the 100s if not 1000s of dollars of damage they cant cause. its taken me 2 months to recover from paying off my 1000 dollar deductible.

 

YA you're very lucky!! This could have happen also! I saw someone on here that hit a deer and guts where all over the seats and all the way to the back of the vehicle (not a Tacoma)
I know that's a moose but you get the idea!!
