Anyone regret getting SR5 over TRD?

I’m printing this off for when I get my next one 10 years from now. I went in thinking I knew exactly what I wanted, got it and realized I wanted something else. My fault I fooked up.

I have no regrets. Like Exracer2 mentioned above, I had done my research and ordered exactly what I wanted. And I am very happy with it.

I've had both, and for me, the TRD OR takes the cake. I didn't dwell too much on the price difference, becauses its fairly negligible between the two. The locker and softer suspension on the OR was a big plus for me, since I get off the beaten path quite often. The biggest difference IMO, is MTS (essentially what was ATRAC on the 2nd gen, but is adjustable on the 3rd gen). While in 4 low, if a front or rear wheel loses traction the truck will brake said wheel to redistribute power to the wheel(s) with traction. This can be a game changer when you are in hairy situations.

With that said, most people will never use these features. If you will use them, it's a no brainer to get the OR. The OR and Sport models typically have better resale (more demand) so there is that as well. BUT at the end of the day, each are great trucks and you really can't go wrong with either.

I keep thinking I might trade up for a newer OR or even just an SR5 with TSS and 4wd. And then I realize that my 2wd SR5 gets through all the commuting and the not infrequent forest roads and occasional 4x4 trails I need it to with no issues. And then I’m content again.

My wife used to make me crazy because she would start looking for a new vehicle a month or so before she went to buy a new vehicle. Couple of months go by and she realizes she could have had XYZ vehicle. Finally got her to shop early and look at everything including stuff she was sure she didn’t want. She took over 12 months when researching her last vehicle. It was by far the best vehicle for her needs.

Once you sign on the dotted line you are committing to time and money. It is going to cost you either time or money to change a mistake made by signing that paperwork. Your research and planning is your only way to ensure this isn’t a gamble.

 My wife has taught me a lot about car shopping. Rule #1 is buy/order exactly what you want, NOT what they happen to have in stock. Be willing to walk away. Let the dealers know that you will be ordering, and getting quotes from other dealers. They have one chance to give you their best price. This strategy has worked well for us over the years.

    Love my 4x4 sr5 2017
No adaptive cruise no auto braking and manual rear window
I don't need a computer to drive on or off road for me and I can buy my own shocks n tires
I also think they look better
I like the grill and lack of bed stickers on the sr5

At the end of the day, you will probably get the same value off an SR5 after 5 years that you would off some TRD model. You pay for the extras for comfort and a little more resale.

    TSS is worthy.

The only time I regret getting an SR5 is when I’m on TW and see all the TRD owners but then I go outside and look at my truck then realize I already have everything I will ever need and want from this truck.

I only lost 2K (+TTL) on the SR5 after 3/4 of a year and 12,000 miles. I’d say the value holds up pretty well. Most vehicles lose more than that just leaving the lot.

Same here, love my SR with the SX package. Didn't ad a thing yet 4x4 2.7l and still love driving it and occasionally playing off the pavement. Speaking of which any one in NJ want to do some mild off roading?

Figure no reason to regret what you've bought. Just enjoy it and have fun. Add anything you want later on.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
Crawl control is gimmicky shit for people that dont have a winch, or air down.

People have been offroading for years without this technology, and if you can name 1 vehicle that competed in The KOH with crawl control and had to use it, I'll shut right the hell up.

But yeah I wasn’t happy with my SR5 besides it being blazing blue. So much happier with OR

The crawl control is kind of stupid because it defeats the purpose of crawling the car on your own. The only thing that sold me was the locking rear. Other than that it is really all cosmetic.

Also, I am putting on my own suspension, so the "upgraded" suspension is also a non issue. Your SR5 is plenty capable and you can always add lockers if you want them.

I don't regret buying a 2016 SR5. I paid $30,100 plus taxes/fees. TRDs look great for sure, but I didn't need any of the cosmetics. I previously had a 2003 ranger so anything was a huge upgrade haha
