3rd Gen HID vs LED vs Halogen H11 projector headlights

I heard some H11s will fit in the H16 socket without trimming. The stock H11s don't fit without trimming.

 

Cheech and Chong are v chill but even they get worked up about this. Around here it is Jeeps with light bars that could cook a hot dog at 10 feet.

 

Installed the GE Megalight Ultra +130 H11s in the low beams today...hopefully that will make a difference. If not I will use them in the fogs and go from there....

 

These made a huge improvement over stock for me. I hope you too see a difference.

 

Took the Tac out for a spin last night, very pleased with the lights, nice improvement over the OEMs. Even the wife thought they were better.

 

Finally got around to opening up the cheap Chinese Philips today... only they were not not Chinese. They were German.

The super cheap “Original Equipment Quality” Standard bulbs are identical to the Philips sold under the Vision label, that sell for a high premium. I tested them both and the performance was identical.









So you can get the best bulbs I’ve tested so far for less than $8 with free 2 day prime shipping off Amazon. At that price, and it being the best performing bulb, I really don’t see why you’d buy anything else.

So are those H9 bulbs the same ones that are in my hi beams now? Or are theses brighter. Thanks again great post and a lot of research

 

Correct. They are the highest performing bulb of all thus far. They will have greater overall output and higher intensity hot spot for better distance projection and they will have better life than the GEs. Plus they cost less. You will need to trim the tab on the base though since they are an H9 or use the adapter harness as others have made.

 

Same ones that are in the high beams. You can swap them into the lows and try them out at night without having to spend any money. I’m waiting on the “70w off road” H9s from Xencn to try for the high beams.

Hard to say if they will be legit or not. They are supposed to be in next week.

After that I will be testing alternator voltage boosters for AGM battery charging support, which should be good for another ~15% output gain of the headlights for both highs and lows if they work as advertised.

Only difference I see is that mine say 7G21.B and the standards you bought look to say 9A08.E. That a big deal or just a build mark? Thanks for all of your hard work!

 

I believe that mark is some kind of batch/production date. You can buy the exact same bulbs and that number will be different.

Welp, looks like I'll have two to my door sometime tomorrow. Got to love Amazon! Might as well get them now before Tacomaworld shuts down the Amazon vendor ha I'll install them next time I am back at my dad's shop. That dremel makes the tab removal task easy and clean.

 

Oh you know TW will wipe out the supply. Should almost take bets on how long till they are sold out.

 

Amazon must love you when you do that! I've ordered a pair of these to try in my low beams. Can you point me to the post where the modification needed to use H9s in the low beams is shown? Was it back around page 30?
