I'm video game retarded, but I was thinking about getting a game system for the family for Christmas this year. I'm doing this early since I know there will probably be a major shortage come the Holidays. So which is best and why? I'm expecting different opinions so tell me why you like the one you do best.

My kids are 8, 5, and 1 (not that the 1 year old will be playing anytime soon) if that helps.

    Thanks,

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Because of the childrens ages, I voted for the Wii.

I vote PS3 or Xbox. They now have things similar to the wii with the motion and controllers. PS3 has blue ray which would be nice for the family. Xbox has a wide variety of games as well and is a solid platform.

I have had all of the PlayStation's. I enjoy the PS3. All I do on a gaming system is play the games and in this case I can watch Blue Ray movies, I don't buy them though. I obviously don't use the systems to their fullest thus I am sure I am missing something about them.
I have played an xbox 360 and to me it and the PS3 are the same for what i do with them.

I think the Wii wold be good for the kids now but I think they will grow out of it. The Xbox or PS3 will grow with the kids at-least until the next set of game consoles come out.

Xbox 360. Plus they are coming out with Kinect, which is basically identical to the Wii. So you're getting 2-for-1

It seems like the little kids enjoy the Wii more, but as someone already mentioned, I think they could grow out of it quicker than the other two systems. Price-wise though, the Wii is cheapest. The PS3 & Xbox are more hardcore, but do have more features...either one of those are good. Although blu-ray movies play right out of the box on the PS3.

I enjoy playing on the Wii I have one and have purchased one for my mom but when you want to play a videogame the Wii just can't compare with the Xbox and PS3.

I'd say the Wii since it will be for the family. We have a ps3, Wii and the original Xbox. The Wii gets played the most, unless it's just me playing then it's usually the ps3 although I do play the Wii often.

wow, you have to get an x box. I have a wii and never use it. That system was in my opinion a step back for nintendo. Its great for kids and group gatherings. But really boring to play alone. But xbox solved all of those problems with kenect. You can actually play cool games and also have games to play in group or family gatherings.
    with x box you get
    the best most solid platform
Kenect-just like the wii except you are the controller, Hands free

Get a wii and mod it. Google it. Plenty of places to get free games. Believe me the kids would want more games.
