Loving the 91 performance on my truck. feels a lot like the new Tundra with how the throttle is. and way better to drive. you don't need to keep your foot in it all the time and guess when it will shift or try and get it to shift. much better I wish I would have done the tune a long time ago. Definitely will recommend. Thanks OV/ Mat for all you guys do. keep up the good work

 

Same here cause I have a Shell credit card, and they charge cash price instead of credit card price when you use it plus the $.05 off rewards per gallon.

Flashed over to 91 base tune from the 87 base tune today. Seems a tad bit more responsive and holding gears differently.

Will report back with an honest opinion in 300 miles

 

This is on the 87 tune. 55-65 mph. Dash was reading 24+ cruising at 55

Running 50-70 mph to and from work 70 miles a day M-F and I’m getting 19.5-20
That’s so much better than the 17 or so stock tune I was getting

 

How was your transmission temp? mine gets crazy high towing up hills at freeway speed.

 

You have the tow package with trans cooler?

 

I do. With an additional aftermarket trans cooler.

 

How much you towing?

 

Trailer maxes out at 5,000 lbs. It's a dual axle camper that may as well be shaped like a sail.

 

What are your temps towing and not towing?

 

Pin your transmission thermostat when towing it makes a huge difference while towing. Keeps temps down and the transmission recovers twice as fast. Just my two cents

Physical pin?

 

There is a thermostat on the transmission on the passenger side. Just push the pin in and there are two holes that will allow you to side a small pin through to hold it in. There are plenty of post and pics showing how to do it on this site and online. Just search, pin thermostat and Tacoma you will find them really easy.

 

Thanks. Didn't know you could do this. Any drawbacks to leaving it pinned all the time in the South Florida climate? I'm monitoring transmission temps with no trailer and seeing 190 degrees from steady cruising on the turnpike. ETA, I have the tow package.

 

I use a scangauge2 to monitor the two transmission temp sensors. I pin the transmission thermostat during the summer and when I tow. My personal opinion is they keep the temps up to improve the mpg. Pinning the thermostat let's the cooler work all the time instead of waiting on the thermostat to operate. The thermostat is a good idea with cooler or cold temps it allows the transmission to obtain operating temps faster. I also always tow in S4, this keeps the rpm's up and the transmission pump is a lot more efficient keeping the transmission oil circulating increasing the cooling ability. One thing you can't control is ambient temperature, if it's hot outside you lose a lot of cooling ability.

 

I believe the thermostat opens right around 190. Prior to upgrading my cooler, I had seen pan temperatures over 200 (not towing), but now they don't exceed 190; converter temps may spike a little higher from time to time. I just use the feel test on the cooler to determine if it is open/closed.

 

I agree with this. Matt should charge for major updates. All software works that way. You either pay subscription or one time for updates. Matt promised no charges for updates to make stuff work better but did not promise that new functionality would be free. Like on-the-fly octane adjustment or working with adaptive cruise control. New tunes for off-road etc.
