Has anyone ever rebuilt a motorcycle carb? I'm thinking of giving it a try on mine. I'm not too bad mechanically, just don't have any experience and I'm sure there are plenty of youtube vids to watch.

And you'll know more about the bike. I normally try to do belts, fluids, valves and carbs. I don't mess with the ecu, efi, flashing stuff

I might try to pick up a used factory carb. I found one on fb marketplace. That way if I get to a place where I need help, the bike won't be off the road.

Ok, I've been reading up on the DRZ carb. Apparently there are 2 different models. A Keihin FCR39 and Mikuni BSR36 CV. The FCR39 came on 2000-2006 DRZ400E(dirt only) and 2000-2003 DRZ400K(I believe this was the early "S" model). From my readings, the FCR39 is a much better carb and one of the best carb upgrades you can do.

I have found a sales ad on fb for a FCR39. I sent the guy a message. Hopefully I can get it and not have to worry about getting it rebuilt right away.

Just get a cheap ultrasonic cleaner for when you have to rebuild the thing. Makes cleaning off the shitty ethanol varnish easier.

The tank size doesn't matter as much as the interior dimensions. Make sure it fits the carb body. I think a 2L size is good for most home uses. I use mine a lot. Bolts get pretty rusty around here. I just toss some vinegar or rust remover in mine and put bolts in it as I take them off. They are perfect by the time I am ready to put them back on.

I might try to pick one up. I plan to rejet it anyway, so if the jets are clogged.....it won't matter :D
