Looks like you can buy them pre-cut, at least. That beats the hell out of trying to custom-fab it. :notsure:

I'm heavily invested in the Milwaukee Fuel line of tools and last year got their string trimmer and it's been awesome, but I really only have a small yard to deal with. I am actually going to buy an electric mower here soon. I am all for electric power- my ice auger is electric, I use my electric motor on my boat all the time... quiet, powerful and reliable!

Those are the decks I cut, but yes, I had the old decks to use as a template. I can't imagine having to design something custom, many times more difficult.

Aha. I didn't realize that your old ones were intact enough for use as a template. That does make it easier.

That's when poster-board templates are key! I use heavy construction paper and/or poster board for templating. It's definitely tedious, but sort of fun as long as you're not under a tight deadline.

I laid the old one over the new plywood. Back to back. The tough part was cutting this 45 when I couldn't find my router bits. Just said screw it and used the circular saw. Came out fine though.

Yeah... templates aren't going to help you there. I'd definitely screw that up with a circular saw. Only other option would be a rough cut and a lot of time with a belt sander. That's usually my approach when using a circular saw. I'm notoriously bad when it comes to free-handing cuts with a circular saw.

I'm a freaking wizard with one for some reason. I'll have to take a picture of how the new one came out, better than the factory. They used real shit wood when they built this boat 15 years ago.

sitrep: roughly 2 inches on the ground and accumulating. It's been snowing hard all morning, so if the ground didn't start out above freezing we'd probably have around 6 inches by now.

I'm not sure about electric mowers, the reviews I have read about some of the stihl ones at least sound like they aren't there yet. Although I do want to go that way eventually. I'm also looking for a bigger mower than you probably are, one company is doing them right now but its like 17k for a mower. A good commercial rider is 12-15 right now, so it isn't that high of a markup, but I still want to see the tech in action a few more years before I go spending money like that on one. Also, with how fast some of this tech is developing, I feel like I need to let it get a solid base before I go too crazy with it.

You have a love for the cold weather I could never match.

@Noelie84 I bet you put a tent up in that parking lot and this son of a bitch will be in it before you leave for the day.

He'd be living in style if he did; I used to winter camp all the time, so I've got a good 4 season tent, bag, pad, etc, plus all of the standard camping gear.

Edit- We just switched to sleet. We're accumulating little ball bearings now.

I'm all about the STihl...I have chainsaw, power head, extension arm hedge trimmer, weed wacker...Love it. They reliably start as long as you use the cannister pre-mix with zero ethanol in it. Well worth the cost.

I resemble that remark. On Saturday, at least.

The tax code changed a bit. My refund is $1,800 less than it was last year. I wasn't thrilled when I figured that out which reminds me I still need to file those.
