Finally got the new bike ready to go - put on rear shocks, air intake, exhaust, flashed ECU, new battery, and changed the oil. Planning to go for inspection tomorrow and get some riding in this weekend.

My Denali kit arrived in the mail. Most of the wiring is plug & play, save for one tap I have to do to the high/low beam wire. I've only worked on '50s spec wiring, so posi-taps are hi-tech for me. What exactly am I to do with this connector? The demo video online glazed right over this step. Any tips on a posi-tap? Seems pretty straightforward, but nothing ever is.

EDIT: NVM, found an answer. Now to find the wire...

Those dont really work that great..easy to do but they can break the wire if it vibrates much

I've run that type of tap in the truck for my reverse lights and have had good results. Doesn't vibrate as much as a bike though. It probably depends on the wire gauge too, I can easily see tiny wire breaking with it.

yeah, i mean they work. but just more likely to have an issue eventually imo. might as well cut and splice with solder or a crimp.

just ordered a couple plugs off of cycleterminal.com i hope to make my fan plug and play if i got the right connectors. tonight ill see if the large 4inch spal fan (similar to the trailtech) will run with the bike only having a 60w stator. supposedly its a 24w once running but 50w startup.

The spal 4inch fan works! Powered by the bike so i dont have to worry about a battery pack. 157cfm should definitely help the bike stay cool in the woods. :bikewhoops:

    I need H-D sportster 883 expert advice.

So as much as I'd like to buy a new 883 for my daughter, it's just not going to be in the cards. Looking on craigslist, I have a ton of options for bikes made in the last 20 years with low miles. Some are being ridiculous on the price, but most are in the $3-6K range. Ideally, newer with less miles is better, but I mostly want a good solid bike.

Limiting it to bikes made since 2000, are there years or models to avoid or particularly look for with the 883?

Any and all with “Harley Davidson” anywhere on them.

All jokes aside, i can’t imagine you would have a hard time finding one with low miles and hardly any mods for a decent price. Those things are everywhere! Just gotta know where all to look. :)

Part of the problem is there are so many choices in all ranges of price and condition and I know very little about H-Ds.
    Like this 2018 with 276 miles (yes, 276) for $6500. https://littlerock.craigslist.org/mcy/d/geronimo-2018-harley-davidson-sportster/6858332690.html

Seems like a decent deal to me...how much is the same optioned bike new? How mycj would you be saving? Plus you’d get a cover and a jacket out of the deal....the helmet is likely not worth using since somebody else wore it...

If you snapped three, wouldn't it be a good idea to replace all of them since the rest are probably on their way out too? I'd worry about snapping another stud when you torque the manifold down and then it'd be more of a bitch to try and remove the broken stud on an already installed engine.
    Just my $.02
