Any of you guys know what the max size the yakima front loader will fit on the clamp? Like max bar size? I got the KB Voodoo HD cross bars for my truck and wanted to use Frontloaders on them, but they seem pretty big

 

I know there were some changes, but I haven't fully compared, so couldn't tell you specifically. They changed the way they do their sizing in general, and lots of folks seem to be confused about which way to go. At 5'11" I'm a Large in most bikes, but my Smash is a Medium and feels perfect. In the new sizes (1-4) their calculations put me on a 3 with the short headset orientation. I've actually ordered a Revved Trail Pistol, so we'll see how the sizing compares. I'm supposed to have it in a couple weeks.

Re: climbing I meant pedaling efficiency. I mean, traction is good as would be expected, but pedaling efficiency is surprisingly good for a heavy bike with 140mm of travel.

 

This is exactly how I shipped a bike from California to Maine. LBS always has a bunch of recycled bike boxes. I paid the LBS $25 to disassemble and pack the bike, then it was like $100 to ship it via UPS. I probably split the costs with the buyer.

Firstly, it can inflate my bike tires really easily... I have a fat tire folding bike, and figure I may air down tires on sand and such, then air back up for hard surfaces. I also have airbags in my Taco rear suspension to help level when I'm loaded up and towing my camper. Not having to break out the full on corded air compressor, pop the hood, connect to the battery, unroll the cord, unroll the air hose and then connect it up to put about 10 seconds worth of pumping in the air bags will be nice.

It would probably handle inflating a car tire or two... but more likely just a "top off" of a few pounds. It is not a replacement for a good corded air compressor, but still pretty neat to have on hand!

Bike tires and small volume use yes but it'll probably not be good enough for any tires bigger than what its recommended for.

 

Not sure on that, but they open really wide so they should be able to fit on most anything. You can always ask your local forms is someone wouldn't mind a test fit.

 

My Breezer SS hangin out on the back..getting a tailgate pad or going with a fork mount in bed. Came from a SUV so testing out the rack on the Taco here. #SSOD

 

Good call, might just run up to REI today and see if they have one in stock. Sold my Kuat yesterday and need to find a way to mount the bikes without removing the front wheel, the frontloader seems to be the ticket

 

FWIW I've run a 2.4 27.5" Tire and a 2.3 29" tire on my frontloader with no issues

Just keep the adjustment in the 29" position and crank down on it.

 

I use a SWAGMAN bed rail that currently holds two, but I have successfully held 3 bikes with tailgate closed... Lg MTB, 27.5+ to my road and cross bikes.

 

Sounds like the ticket. I ride a 29 x 2.4 YT Jeffsy, and my wife rides a 27.5 x2.8 Trek Roscoe. I think I read the Front Loader can take up to a 3 inch wide tire.

 

Got to ride 3 of the last 5 days; and today will make it 4/6. Feeling stoked...just in time for it to snow 3 inches in the valley again #10thWinter

What made you decide to sell the Kuat? I only ask as I'm currently shopping for a tray style hitch carrier.

Sunday 20 mile MTB ride.

 

To be honest, I Just wanted to mount the bikes on the bed. I had the Sherpa on my STI before the Tacoma and its the best tray style hitch carrier on the market imo. Now that I have a truck, I want to be able to mount the bikes on cross bars over the bed, so I can tow a pop up camper. Couldnt do that with the kuat.


If you are looking for a hitch mount carrier, the sherpa is hard to beat. The NV base is legit but huge and heavy. The bike stand is kinda gimmicky too. 1up is also right up there neck and neck with the Kuat.
