Ahahaa! Its all good, it would be boring if we only talked about the roof rack... which I should be cutting out of cardboard right now

Spent the weekend out of town so I didn't get to mess with the cardboard. Hopefully today I can carve out some time for them. It's the last checking step before I pull the trigger on laser cutting. I've decided water jet is not the way to go.

We'll let you slide Luke. This time. :D :fistbump:

So why laser over water jet? I know nothing about the cost of either or the process. Just asking to learn, and get your take on it.

Water jet guys are overbooked that's all. I'd still like to see the cost comparison but it is probably next to nothing. I got 10 sets of racks quoted and 20 sets.. :bananadead: in case we go BIG in the future..

Oh, cool! I was just wondering if there was much of a difference. I know hydro is used a lot.

What part (county) of Eastern Pa are you in? I am just south of Delta, just a couple miles. Again, just curious. Need to know how far a drive will be :anonymous:

AYYYE, I am in Lancaster County. Around Lancaster / Manheim / East Petersburg area. I've never heard of Delta County. :anonymous:

Any chance you are planning a matching bed cap rack? Would be a nice value-added addition.

Possibly. The only thing is I don't have a bed capper right now to work with. I'd have to look at a few at a dealer or something. It would not be hard to design. PS, thanks for the PM but I will not be making a site of any kind at this point in time.

Yea, cool, looks like a straight shot up 222 for me. Nice! I plan on getting a cap soon, I am having whoever I buy it from install the roof rack tracks. Not sure if I will ever have a full blown rack up there but if/when the time comes we can certainly use it to test your designs.

You ever go up to AOAA or Rausch? I bought a ground tent and plan on getting into camping while wheeling since most places are too far for me to just go for the day.

Got some time so I cut out the v5 sides. Back is good for sharkfin clearance so thats a checkmark. Im not sure I like the gap on the front fairing angle though.. i may have to bring that down more. I also have to enlarge the center flange for the single bolt location because it isnt hitting the right spot.

It's so cool you're bringing this to life Luke.
I hope you don't mind some thoughts from a guy that doesn't know anything about this type of rack.

It seems in the pic that the rear might interfere with a tent on a bed rack. Or is that just the camera angle?

Will the rack be cantilevered outside of the mounting holes? What type of support bracket will you use? I suppose the cross bars will keep the rails from flexing and touching the top of the cab?

Will the offset distance between the bottom of the rails and the top of truck be equal for the entire length?

That point in the front of the rails looks cool AF but I wonder if a small radius wouldn't be better for the design? I think those points are going to vibrate easier too. They are cool though.

I like how tall the rails are. How high above the cab will the cross bars sit. Reason I ask is, I've always wondered what people with these racks do to wash under them or clear snow? Also, I have a sunroof and while you can space the cross bars on some racks the height of say a Plano case mounted to them might still interfere.

    Definitely way cool though.
    Rob

    Edit! Steaks FTW!
