I wonder how many loyal customers Ford lost when they dropped the Ranger. Similar to discontinuing the Mustang and it's poor reintroduction as the MustangII which flopped. It wasn't until they scrapped that and came up with a truly updated Mustang years later that there was any significance to the name. A lot of Firebirds were sold in the interim. You'd think they'd have learned something but it's doubtful anyone working at corporate looks at their own history. Since I typically own my vehicles for 15+ years each I won't even be looking again until sometime around 2030.

In my opinion 3rd Gen is uglier than the Ranger, but it didn't stop me from getting one. :p

All the OEMs do that. I belive GM came up with thr philosophy in thr late 80's to midigate all the workman's comp claims. Typically workers are grouped in "teams" of 8 and rotate specific jobs in a station area.

So a guy might do steering wheels for 2 hours, then radios 2 hours and driver seats 2 hours and passenger seats 2 hours. Helps free the mind of thr monotony and move strain across the muscles and body. Ergonomics are serious business in automotive.

So if you got a sucky guy do your steering wheel, he will be screwing someone else’s driver seats two hours later...?

I think the same sucky guy got rotated until he alone built the entire Jeep Wrangler I just traded in.

And you haven't traded your Taco for a Ranger yet?

    What's wrong with you?

(sarcastic font for all the above)

For the record, I was thinking the Ranger would have done better sales wise.

You know, since it has been tested in the grueling Australian Outback and all....lol

Maybe if it was actually the new design but it’s current styling is what the last gens looked like. It’s ugly and the actual sale price of a 150 with discounts where the ranger isn’t discounted isn’t too far off. So when a ford guy goes to buy a ford there isn’t a lot of reason to go with a ranger.

Seems like they are not pushing them this year, possibly seeing if they have any recall issues to deal with/bugs to work out.
They are definitely not doing an aggressive marketing campaign.
That said even Chevy has hardly any adds on TV showing off the ZR2, but watching any US Tv station you see tons of Toyota adds showing off the Tacoma.

Suppose I’m out of the loop, internet stuff only (Netflix, Hulu, etc). Toyota really doing a good job selling these. Every where I look is a Tacoma.

Toyota is smart with their advertising.

They know people aren't buying them for work, so instead they advertise them as the fun truck.

You'd be amazed how many white tacos you see running around Houston with the logos of various services plastered on the door.

Here too. Light service. Survey, pool care, water department, exterminator, etc..
That said way more for personal use. I see these cars all day and it’s very common to have three stacked at a light.

For sure, Toyota is definitely aggressive with their campaign, which is smart, Toyota shows how much fun you can have with their truck.
Its dumb for the other companies to take a laid back approach and hope that someone wanders in and discovers their trucks.
I should add that there are lots of companies using Tacomas here for work as well.
