Not just technicians getting in & out of your truck at dealer. Lot porter, service writer & maybe car wash crew if they do that at your dealer. Or maybe you did it without noticing it. Seriously so much hate for dealers. You all act as if independent shops are the greatest thing ever & never screw up. I see more hack jobs at my work from indy shops than I care to see. Just have no right working on the vehicles I do & then the angry customers come to us wanting us to fix it.

I had that happen to me back when I was driving an F150. I didn't have time to do my service so I dropped it at the dealer. Next time I tried to change oil it took some uhh.... persuasion.. to get the filter off. When I did you could tell the gasket had not been lubricated properly and had some idiot swinging on it with a oil filter wrench to crank it down.

I am planning to do all maintenance and checkups on this truck. The only thing I am letting the dealer touch are recalls and software updates.

went back to check and they had not disposed of the plug

here it is with a notch out to get it loose

97 stripped front diff plug notch out.jpg

chisel or drill and special tool to break it loose?

went to the dealer service advisor to show him and he just shrugged his shoulders :notsure:
I would of thought he would at least call back to the guy in charge in the shop to tell all techs to watch out for this ... customer service is JOB #1

    Baxter in NE?

This is very common, they round out, even with the best of tools... I've been replacing them for a couple of years now with Lexus part number 90341-24016. It has a 14mm nut instead of the female hex. Gasket remains the same.

is it common for them to NOT put a new one in when they notice this happening?
I mean contact me tell me we need to charge you for a new plug this one is old
this is my point, I understand this. it happened when I was a lubeTech in my teens.
we always put new plug in if it looked like it was needing one, not leaving the next tech/mechanic to have a headache

I agree, it should be changed... but difficult to say what different techs will do on different days. The part is inferior and designed to fail.
