Interested in this. I actually just asked that question above. Do you know if this has been done?

I'm thinking the same thing. I've seen 16" springs on Wheelers site that I think would fit but I don't if things would work properly.
For me, I have a 4 inch spacer lift and I been thinking if I can remove the spacer and go with a higher spring, would the shock handle the extra height of travel. Anyone have any input?

The longer springs are not possible to my knowledge because it is a 60mm shock and made specifically for the 6112. I know that some have put 700lb springs on the 6112 but it is highly discouraged and not recommended. The only spring that is different from the 600lb spring that comes with, that is recommended for more weight is the 650lb spring from bilstein.

The 16" on Wheelers is a 3" spring and would fit on the 6112 I think.

I dont think that fitting a longer spring is the issue, the issue that I see is whether or not it is recommended. Honestly , one of the big factors with me getting the 6112's over the 5100's was the beefiness of the suspension over the 5100's but why I went with the 6112's over icon or kings was the fact that they have a lifetime warranty. Upgrading to the bilstein 650lb spring, which I will do soon, is still under that recommended spec of bilstein and still covered under the warranty.

    Ahh.. I found it.

But there are others in this thread that are running king springs. IIRC, the spring just needs to flat on the top and bottom.

That is the one. There are some others that are running a king spring and even an eibach spring. To each his own. For my own benefit and warranty protection, I just wanted to keep everything Bilstein so there is no question if something bad were to happen.

Yea, I was/am in potentially running king springs too.. I just want to get a bit more lift since I only ended up with 2" running 2nd gen 6112's on a 3rd gen. From what I have read anyway, my warranty is shot due to that fact anyway. Oh well...

Do you happen to know the length of stock 6112 spring tho? Is it a 13" or 14" spring?

You keep referencing 2nd gen and 3rd gen 6112's. Do you mean 2nd gen tacoma? or 2nd gen 6112 shock? Like did Bilstein improve their shock design?

There is a difference in part numbers but some people have used them interchangeably. Personally I really dont know the main difference, it might be in the notches.

The 3rd gen specific 6112s have slightly different spring perch settings that allow you to stagger spring preload from side to side to compensate for Taco lean without needing a spacer. According to Marie at Headstrong, the 3rd gen shocks are also a tiny bit shorter (like 1/8"). She posted in one of the initial review threads that the valving may have also been slightly different but was so close that it would be difficult to detect. I don't know if they were ever able to get the shock on a dyno to determine the exact valving difference, though.

All that being said there are a lot of people running the 2nd gen 6112s on 3rd gen Tacomas without issues. I don't know about the opposite being true, as it's impossible for anybody to even find the 3rd gen shocks.

Almost all coil over springs are 3" diameter and 14" length.

I installed 2nd gen 6112's onto my 3rd gen truck. Not sure if they made things differently, I do know the 2nd gen setup sits 1" higher than the 3rd gen and they were the only ones in stock at the time
