Costway 54qt Fridge? Cheaper Alternative and Just as Good?

Stumbled upon this while I was going through Amazon today. Seems too good to be true!

All the reviews are good as well. It's a 12v fridge unlike ARB/Dometic, but I bet it will still get the job done well. Totally get the "buy once cry once" thing, but I'm just curious as to if anyone has this. I do know that there is another vendor who sells fridges on here for $100 more as well, which includes a cover and a year long warranty.

Any input?

I bought other said fridge and this looks to be the same one. One of my buddies saw that but on Walmart.com. Only complaint I read was it didn’t cool fast enough. I’m guessing they expected instant. Takes 10 minutes or so but works well at least the other rebranded version.

 

Damn it ain't cheap at all. I had a 12v coolatron I got for less than a $100 and it worked great. It kept food 30 degrees cooler than than ambient temp so I had it strapped to my passenger seat with the ac facing it and it would have icicles in the cooler sometimes

 

I'm fine with waiting 10 minutes for it to cool...No problem to me. How do you like your fridge and how do you have it wired up?

 

Nice, I had one of those too but didn’t work long term like a fridge.

 

So far so good. Beats changing Ice. After my last trip to Utah I swore a fridge would be next. Then that came up. I wired a 12v to the battery. Runs for 2-3 days before battery dies. I have a solar setup I’m going to install and plan to swap to a 31m AGM battery. Should give me a week. You can get a battery tender to keep connect when at home but if you drive it regular or should stay charged.

 

Mind me asking about your solar setup (what did you buy)?

Im in the same boat. Tired of my food being mixed with water from the ice chest. Plus I like cold drinks...all the time haha.

Exactly! PM me and I’ll send you the list tomorrow. I need to dig up the parts list. Bit got it from a buddy and uses flexible solar panels and so plan to slap them on top of the shell.

 

Yah similar. I got it at Oreillys mainly due to Time a crunch. You cut off the ends and connect about 8 feet of positive/negative wire. Mine runs into a blue sea fuse box before the battery but that part is setup as constant.

 

Update: Just bought it. Will update how it is!

 

82° to 5° in under 13 minutes empty. Construction is solid.

It's been plugged in my room for 3 months now, no issues at all. I am moving it into my truck in the next few weeks!

 

UPDATE?!?! I'm looking into units now and this popped up. Been looking for reviews and there aren't a ton. How did this work out for you @SoCalTacoTruck

 

The stupid temperature would not change from 32°F or 0°C so it froze everything always - Ended up selling it because it made everything solid. Even beer was icy lol.

 

Damn that sucks. I'm liking going to give this a shot to see. Found more reviews and they appear to be good. More reviews available than Alpicool on Amazon.

mine was braindead after a few days of playing with it and did something similar to yours where the temp control couldn't be changed. I contacted customer support and got the key sequence to reset it to factory defaults and that cleared up the problem.

I've had mine for about a week now and am happy with the purchase....considering it's about a third of the cost of the ARB that I was looking at...

 

They are a great fridge, however they do have a chinese compressor and only a 90 day warranty. That's where the lower price comes in.

 

Well I just bought one of these, basically a Coleman cooler with a very thin piece of metal like sheet wrapped around it and of course a cheap compressor. We’ll see how long it lasts.

This is in a hatchback of a car, so I wanted one like this that was lower profile, so I can open it up while it’s still in the car. The problem with the taller coolers is you have to take it out to open the lid up, which is a major pain.
