Just got some new ebc yellowstuff pads and they came with these piston cushions.
Says not to use shims or grease on the back of the pads, just these and grease on the side of these mating to the pistons.

Anyone know if they work better than the shims they used to come with? I know mine were pretty quiet already. I hate change, real world experience welcome.

Looks mickey mouse to me. If the regular shims were such a poor design then all of our brakes would be making noise.

I'll bet "Nucap of Canada" paid EBC to get their fancy shims in every new box of pads they sell

Interesting, first time I have ever seen this kind of shim. Try em out, just be sure to use a shim on the back of the non piston pad and grease the “feet” of the pads AND the backs of the pads.

Anytime something says no lubricant needed, I get real skeptical about the functionality.
Brakes have been done the same way for decades, there is always some new “thing” showing up on the market, only to disappear just as quickly. I grease everything when I do brakes....

And a nice even coat on the rotors to keep them shiny.

    And your point?
With so many different vehicles and brakes, the point is moot, if you have 2 pistons, the same applies, grease the backing plates and feet.
Sorry, after x billon of vehicles I have worked on, I don’t even claim to remember what is on what or even what MFG made the part.

    Yeah, you do that.
    Why not WD-40?
    Smells better.

I used those when I installed my EBC pads and rotors. Everything gas been working fine for the past 10-12 months. I would use them as directed.

Ah. I did not know that. I gotta say though; I do like 4 position calipers. They've been there when I needed them.:fingerscrossed:

Yep, lots of advantages. They get good, equal pad wear inside/outside. Most calipers have pistons on one side only and there are sliders that allow the caliper to squeeze. These sliders need somewhat frequent greasing or they risk seizing up, resulting in an overheat situation. Frozen sliders are the culprit of a lot of warped rotors, brake noise, un-even pad wear and other issues.

Our 6 lug calipers dont have that weak point. The pins on our calipers are really just retainers and they dont need grease.
