If you can get $10K for it let it go. It is cheaper to pay the bank 2% interest on a new one than mechanics $100/hour to keep that one running. Put the $10K down on a new truck and finance the other $25K and your payments will be about $440/month for 5 years and you won't spend a dime on repairs over the next 7-8 years.

The total amount of interest over 5 years is going to be less than $1,300 on a $25K loan @ 2%. You'll spend way more than $2K on that truck to keep it running for the next 5 years and you'll still be driving a truck with 200,000-250,000 miles on it. Even if you borrowed $35K you'd only pay about $1800 in interest.

Two tubs of waterproof grease, a stiff paint brush, some cotton gloves and a Saturday. That thing’ll go another 100K miles...

That’s great until it cracks/peels a little... then it holds moisture/salt in and rusts your truck out even faster. If you use a sealing undercoating around where I live and your truck will be going to the scrap yard in no time.

Been using this for years and never had a problem. Here is a Jeep that has been painted like this for over 10 years. Never cracked or chipped.

You don’t live in the rust belt though. I love that Jeep, my uncle has an XJ with about 300k on it. It’s had a little work done, but that thing just keeps on going.

It's also not a rubber coating. It's a heavy duty paint.

True, no rust belt here. Sold the XJ for a pretty penny also.

How many times have you swapped out the oil filter adapter O-rings? This pic is from his newer XJ, I think it’s an 01 with around 50k original miles. It had a cracked head when he bought it (didn’t know it), somebody had added a bunch of radiator quick fix to it and it started overheating soon after he bought it. He flushed the cooling system multiple times and put a new head and radiator and thermostat in it and hasn’t had any more trouble. They think some of the stopleak got into the engine though, you can see the buildup in the oil filter adapter. It seems to run ok now, but it does have low oil pressure. He runs 10w30 and a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer to bring the oil pressure up a bit. It’s doing Ok so far. I think he regrets buying it, but he didn’t know it had head problems when he bought it. It must have had the 0331 head and somebody dumped a bunch of quick fix junk in it and traded it in.

Is this the same stuff Toyota had my frame sprayed with?

I guarantee Toyota didn't rubber coat or use epoxy paint on your frame. Knowing Toyota, probably used the cheapest crap they could find. Could have been used motor oil.

I’ve been checking regularly, I had to argue with them to do as my truck is a Florida registered...but I was stationed in Wisconsin at the time...now I’m half debating to chip some off
