My bed mat stinks

I installed the Toyota accessory bed mat in the TuRD a few week ago. When I drive with the back window open, the air from the bed tends to come into the cabin. The rubber smell comes in is awful... it’s that smell of Chinese factory but 10x worse than what you get from Harbor Freight.

I figured a few weeks outside would dissipate the stench, but it persists. Anyone else experience this? Does the smell go away? I miss driving with my back window open.

Yep, OEM bed mat and it wreaked of some nasty chemical. The smell went away after a few weeks.

 

Rubber off gases no matter where it is made?

Yup, mine did the same exact thing. It took a month of very hot days to get rid of most of it.

 

Yeah I received mine a a few days ago and this afternoon my wife asked what that smell was. Immediately noticed it before even opening the package it came in.

 

Give it time, park it in the sun and let the oils 'sweat out', maybe wash it a couple of times and see what happens. I cant smell mine anymore and my bed is enclosed. I do remember getting it new and it did stink

 

Yeah, you might not want to eat off of it either. Who knows what is in that mat material! I don't remember mine smelling too awful though....

Mine smells as that type sticky rubber typically does, but can't smell it with rear window open. They are nice though as really keeps stuff from sliding. This box is not attached and it never moves even when I drive a little spirited.

 

Mine had a strong rubber smell but went away after a couple months. It is under the enclosed factory tonneau cover.

 

Mine smelled at first too and it went away in a few weeks. Glad I have it, keeps things from sliding around in the bed.

 

Same here. When I don't have the cover on the bed, I can't open the rear window due to the smell. I have had mine for 2.5 years and still smells when it gets hot.

 

I must be the lucky one then cause I didn't have any problems like that...

Ive said it before and I’ll say it again, there is definitely something wrong with the Japanese...
