It has the power...you (and many others) just don't like how it puts it down. There's a handful of reasons why that's the case but at the end of the day it kind of doesn't matter. It is what it is and if it bothers you then look else where. It's not going to change.

OP, if you want something that is fast off the line, I would forget what everyone said and get a BMW.

Dude, I’m not going to read through the rest of this thread, and I’m sure it’s been said already... its obvious your comments suggest the Taco (not Tac) isn’t the truck for you..!

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I am not going to say the Ranger is ugly. It is dated (older) for a "new" truck model. What I just noticed on the pic of the white one was how much the front of the new Ranger resembles my (now gone) 2002 F150. They are incredibly close. Why would Ford almost copy the front of models they produced from 1998 -2003 on their new model. The lines are almost identical, the only difference (slight) is the grill!

Id say your perception of how the Tacoma drives has a lot to do with what you are comparing it to. I traded my 2006 STI for my 2016 auto Tacoma. Sure it was quite a bit faster then the taco, but I've never thought the Tacoma 3.5 was underpowered. Keep in mind I was used to revving to the moon and back with the Subaru. Even now I jump in my wifes 302 explorer and I look like an idiot driving that because the throttle response is night and day from the Tacoma. I think as long as your expectations are realistic and you have the latest transmission update the auto isn't that bad. I will admit I miss the 3rd pedal and shifting my own gears though.

I thought the same thing until I took the truck off road for the first time. You'll quickly realize & appreciate why first is so short when you make your first descent.

I agree Tacoma is the best looking truck. That's where it stops for me... I do not care much about Form and aesthetics. I am a function over form kinda guy. Looks don't matter as much to me (If they did I would have purchased a Tacoma even with the ugly pig snout grill),

However, for me, Features and performance are key. In that regard, I chose the Ranger. It is not tired old technology like Toyota has offered up in its mediocre refreshes. Toyota knows their fan base will stick with them through thick and thin. They don't have many expectations and are apologists for the brand..

You should have went with the Ridgeliner then, at least they aren't jamming all hell down a 4 cylinder engine. What in the hell were they thinking ? Good luck, that crap shouldn't last long, at least until warranty is up. Ridge looks way better inside too. Outside about the same. One leaf on the Ranger suspension also. I'd pick Honda quality over Ford all day long.

That tired old tech is a Lexus engine that will last forever.

I looked at them. I can't buy an SUV pickup. The Ranger's 4 cyl engine and 10 speed trans feels a ton better than the tired Tacoma driveline.

Ford has been making the EcoBoost for a long long time. The EcoBoost is a German designed motor. IT shares parts with the Mercedes such as the turbo assembly

F 150s are going 100,000+++ miles on the EcoBoost as are Mustangs. It's already proven. Why drop a heavy six-cylinder when a 4 delivers V6 power and torque without straining at all.
I need it to last 60K when I will trade it for another or see what Tacoma is at that time.

Modern day technology is phenomenal. Ford has all of it.

looks are subjective. I bought the Ford because I liked the interior better as well as the drivetrain. I would rather have a truck (ie RWD body on frame) than the Ridgeline unibody.

    Like the F-150 ?
    https://www.hardworkingtrucks.com/ford-f-150-no-longer-recommended-by-consumer-reports/
Good luck if you are trying to pump Ford reliability. Most know better.
Ranger sales are and will be imo dismal.

Consumer Reports????? LOL They hate American brands.
I doubt Ford is worried, The fan base of the F 150 is larger than Tacoma. They will buy anything that says F150 on it. Just like many will buy a Tacoma despite what the competition is doing.

My 2016 Tacoma was NOT reliable.... Why would I dump a perfectly good truck otherwise? Toyota is not the same company they were 20 years ago. The most reliable Tacos are 1st and 2nd gen.

Ford Number 18 in reliability. Bravo.
Want other links ? I can easily furnish them.
Toyota and Lexus are always number one and you know it.
They should be worried, nobody bought their cars so they stopped making them.
Wait til truck market is saturated and gas goes higher. Bye bye F-150.

Sales numbers mean much more. Ford delivered 9K Rangers in an environment where most people are still waiting for orders placed last Fall. They just don't have the inventory. Dealers show 48 but they don't tell you they only have five or 10 in stock. Ford cannot meet demand. Hence three shifts and 400 trucks a day delivered. That's only 12K a month. They need more manufacturing capacity.

BS. I see them sitting on lots for weeks. They are not moving. That's 9000 in over 3 months. Almost as pathetic as Ridgeliners.
9000 in 3 months is 60 per state. Amazing sales.

Bottom line is it is the same exact truck.
How is your master cylinder and TSS ?
Every year will have some issues.

The reason you are not seeing high sales numbers is because Ford cannot meet demand at 400 a day. Tats only 12K a month Those Rangers on dealers websites are not in stock unless they have a stock number. They only started delivering stock in February in dribs and drabs. The entire country has far more room for Rangers than 12K a month Ford delivers,

The few you see instock are not enough for a customer to choose from so they order. You will need at least 50 in stock to sell off the lot, I had to travel 168 miles to find mine. Even though my local dealer had 16 in stock. Like most truck buyers. We want what we want. What are the odds you will find your exact Tacoma build on a lot? Good if there are 60 Tacomas. Not so good if you have to choose from 25.

One Tacoma dealer in San Diego has 90 in stock. So I guess Tacomas aren;t selling either by your metric LOL

Just wait grasshopper. You will see the sales numbers. Ford will take some Tacoma sales. Judging from the Ranger Forum a LOT of Tacoma owners switched to the Ranger, my brother and I included.

The reason you are not seeing high sales numbers is because Ford cannot meet demand at 400 a day. Those Rangers on dealers websites are not in stock unless they have a stock number. They only started delivering stock in February,

The 2019 Ford Ranger has only been on sale for about a month, but sales are already beyond what Ford expected. Demand is so high that Ford is planning to run overtime shifts at the plant, according to an Automotive News report.

Kumar Galhotra, Ford president of North America said this to media yesterday concerning the Ranger: "Based on the orders coming in, and based on the hand-raisers, we think the demand's going to be so strong, that starting in February our assembly plant will be going into massive overtime."
