Buy the Tacoma then trade it in, then stick around the forums and talk about how you traded it in every chance you get.

I had read that when those stories were written about overtime at the Ranger plant, it was to make up for days the plant was closed due to bad winter weather. My Dealer has 1 Ranger on the lot but it has been sitting there for more than a month with a $42K price tag making the F150 a better bargin.

I like the Tacoma. Had four of them. Toyota is taking advantage of its base. They are the last to step up to modern technology and a modern drivetrain.

I refuse to give Toyota any more money until they stop assuming we will buy a Tacoma no matter what. That's not me. It matters, Up to date tech matters to me. Comfort matters to me. Longevity doesn't matter to me. I don't keep vehicles more than a few years. At 4k miles a year, I won't be worried about issues,

I hope Tacoma will equal the Ranger technically and even drivability, but I won't hold my breath. Tacoma fans will ALWAYS buy the Tacoma. Toyota knows this and that is why they dropped the ball on the third gen, Few like myself will give up on them and keep looking for them to step their game up. Until then, I will enjoy the competition and rear disc brakes.

    Still stock completely capable!

That’s how much Ford is trying to copy the Tacoma! Even throw in the same stuff we bitch about! LOL! I never had anything go wrong with my old F150 but that was a N/A v8 I love turbos for race cars but don’t think it belongs in a truck. Putting strain on your engine to get the same power as more cylinders just doesn’t spell long term reliability to me. But time will truly tell all.
And people complain about how Tacoma’s are old and out dated. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Tacoma’s getting 500k+ miles and tundras getting 1M miles why change that ?!

That’s how I look at it. The 3.5eb is a truck/car. You wanna tow get a good ol fashion v8

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If that were the case we would still be driving Gen 2 Tacos. They were the best Tacoma made. And the front grille doesn't look like a pig's snout,

You don't understand the EcoBoost engine. It is NOT working hard at all. It is built for V6 power. RedLine is not even a strain on the engine. It is not fragile. It has been in use for a long long time with good result.

In everyday driving, I never spool up the turbo. No need for it unless I have to pass or get out of the way. I like to have a ton of power and torque on tap/

People keep saying Ford buyers spending $40k++ should buy the F150. What they don;t understand is some of us don't want a huge truck. Even for less money,
I would rather spend $40K on a Ranger than $35k on a lower end F150. To get the Lariat in the F150 one will spend over $60K!!!

So Tacoma buyers should buy a low end Tundra than a higher optioned Tacoma?

Residual on the Ranger after three years is 62% Tacoma is 67% Rangers always had good resale. Check out the prices on 2003-2011 Rangers on CarGurus. I am happy with 62%

Then again I don't keep vehicles past 60K miles or three or four years. Not worried about Ford making that as its the end of their drivetrain warranty,

All I can say is I like ford I had a lifted 06 F150 without any problems in the 40-50 km(purchased with 80k) I had it. What I’m saying is I don’t think turbo is a good plan for long term reliability. Head gasket problems, carbon problems. I truly hope for you that the ranger lasts forever as I don’t wish negative on people. BUT I don’t see that technology outlasting the Taco. I really wish the ranger had a N/A option thou!

If you want reliability, buy a GEN 2. Show me where the EcoBoost has major issues after 60K miles. I don't see it.

I researched the hell out of the 2.3 and found no red flags, Turbos today are reliable and can make very good power. The f150 2.7 Twin Turbo has passed the test of time and miles and that engine has TWO turbos.

People are afraid of turbos with no evidence they are not reliable.

Seriously I don't care if they crap out at 70K..I will have sold the truck thousands of miles sooner. But there are plenty of used EcoBoost vehicles which are reliable.

My buddies eco boost was fine until he hit 90,000 miles and now it’s been in the shop 5 times for a variety of issues, including it dying completely and leaving him stranded.

I’ll stuck with my toyota reliability.

All I’m saying is 99% of the time N/A is more reliable than F/I! Less moving parts and not running as hot. Yes there are some EB trucks running high miles. There’s some Kias with high miles doesn’t mean that they make good vehicles. Like I said I wish you the best in your decision! But remember your on a Tacoma forum you want a pat on the back and to be told you made the right choice there are ranger forums.

If I couldn’t have a Tacoma, id take a ridgeline over the ranger, gladiator or gm twins. At least Honda’s are reliable

If I couldn't have a Tacoma I would probably snag a Manual Frontier.

Hey man totally understand where you’re coming from. If you don’t like it another option is to look into the Colorado. I was going back and forth for a while before deciding on the Tacoma. So test driving one of their sweet setups may help your decision!
