I have a 19 TRD OR w/ 6MT. Love the truck for the most part. The one slightly annoying thing is the driveline noises when shifting sometimes or going at slow speeds over a speed bump or something. I would describe the sound as a combination between a “clank” and a “clunk”. I believe it is coming from the ever so slight amount of play in the output spline of the transmission where it mates to the driveshaft. It’s not super loud or anything, but definitely noticeable. I was hoping that there would be a grease fitting there to inject some grease, but no luck. Anyone else have this issue?

It is lash. I had that problem also, but seriously the TSB ECU update killed 90% of it.

Curious, how does an ECU update help driveline lash? Does it apply constant/slight load? I’ve learned to do that when going over slow bumps- as long as I’m even lightly on the gas I can prevent all the clanking and rattle.

No clunks noticed on my 2019 Access Cab but I did notice the rear driveline is void of grease fittings. It also has only 3 u joints instead of 5 like my first Gen. The front drive line (on my 2019) does have grease fittings in each u joint. Alot less lube maintenance on these new Tacomas.

Nice. I owned a Heads/Cam 02 Sunset orange z28. Converted it to 6 speed. Then I sold it =( I miss that car.

Just like it was strange that it improved shifting. The original tune was just garbage, and I didn't have half the problems that the earlier 3rd Gens had.

Not sure if the TCU TSB applies to my truck. I searched Toyota’s TSB lookup website with my vin last night and it didn’t come up. Thinking that maybe since it’s essentially a brand new truck, the new tune was applied at the factory? Or is it something that they essentially pretend isn’t a problem until you complain about it?

I notice something similar on my 2019. Seems like it happens just as the clutch engages when I'm not on the accelerator. If I'm a bit more cognizant to give it some gas (not a lot, just ease into it) as I'm letting off the clutch then I don't get it.

Shouldn't be that I don't think. The 2019s should already have the latest ECU updates, shouldn't they? The TSBs are all pre-2019, so they would have been integrated from the factory.

The TSB tune was supposedly rolled into the factory production sometime in the late 2018 Model Year. No one has posted ECU IDs from the late run 2018s yet though.

I posted my early 2019 (originally was supposed to be a 2018 when I ordered and ended up being one of the first 2019s instead) ECU a while back. It had a totally new/different ID number, so nobody really knew or could correlate what that meant as far as TSBs.

Hi, is there a TSB for squeaky clutch that was put out? I told dealer about mine squeaking on my 16, and they said there was nothing they could do. I have just been greasing it myself. The grease does not last long though. With summer right around the corner, I bet mine will start squeaking again.

Grease all the pivot points with Disc Brake Grease, it will not melt away in high temps and cures the old barn door creaking.

''The latest TSB I can find only goes up to the 2017 model year''

Is there an actual TSB you speak of?

I don't know the TSB number, but the tech looked at a '17 TSB, and was approved to replace the pedal assembly on my '18. It has been nice and quiet since it was replaced last August. Hopefully it does not return with the warmer weather.

Don’t waste your time at the dealer. Or with white lithium grease.

Go straight to that black thick disc brake grease. My creak was coming from the pin under the pedal, hit that and the pivots. Silent ever since.

it is a bit of a pain to grease yourself. tough spot to get to effectively. How did you get it up there? is that a spray type grease? I will try a better grease next, tried several things so far that have only worked for short term.

If there was a TSB on this issue, I would inquire about it. I don't believe there is an actual TSB on it though until someone shows me otherwise.

    There is a TSB.

So, you say it is difficult to get to. Now, imagine a tech in there who is told to get the work done in an hour. How good of job do you think they are going to do? There have been posts about missing nuts, leaking fluid, and other issues post-TSB that also include the squeak coming back since the exact same part is getting put back in.

    Your choice.
