Dude. I’m not going to get into the good luck part without a plate and vehicle ID number. Even so unless it fell off his truck and it was THEIR material (rocks) nobody can be held legally liable for road debris that gets kicked up. Post a pic of the windshield. I have a guy in the Fontana area that can do wonders with windshield repairs. They are lifetime guarantee and 90% visibly gone.

I figured if I can't find out who it is by Monday, Safelite is just coming out to seal it up and I'll just wait until the whole windshield fails then pull out of pocket. They did my F-150 years ago and it was 99.9% invisible. I appreciate the recommendation however.

Safelite.... I wish you well. They are horrible but if you had good luck in the past with their repairs maybe you have better luck than you think

Blame the road thats where the rock came from... it's not his fault he ran a rock over and it hit your windshield. Glass is usually free on fully insured vehicles. Good luck OP.

Ps rare case he didn't have the dump body tarped and it was spewing rocks over bumps.

having trucks shooting rocks out the their tires in any community will not be good for that business long term, when the people that live there start filing complaints with the township, and plastering the webs with negative comments/reviews, I bet they start being more warm and fuzzy

Like I said best of luck, its a construction vehicle dont follow so close. It's not the truck drivers fault a rock came off the road. Just like if you ran one over and it hit a car... not your fault.. its friggen road debris.

Hope you get the name of the truck man, if they deny the claim, try taking it to a smaller glass repair shop. They usually pull windows off scrap trucks with replace the broken windshield. Usually OEM, dirt cheap, and beats paying 500+. Good luck!

That's what alot of people are missing here. I am going to try and discuss with these haulers and show them the video and see what they say and if anything I will just get denied, no biggy. Alot of responses are from those who arent law makers or insurance adjusters or havent seen the video, plus...internet, so it holds zero value.

I came here just expecting some help of identification from my fellow Tacoma drivers, not scrutiny or angst. Some people are better at being villains than heroes I guess.

I had a similar situation back in the fall...

I was on the interstate, one lane over and about 50 yards behind a lowboy carrying steel trenchbox plates. As we went over a bridge expansion joint, a cloud of dust and rocks came flying off the trailer and a few hit my windshield chipping it in a few places. I followed the truck driver and got him to pull over. He denied everything, but walked me back to the trailer and it had small stones all over it. I took photos as we walked, and he started trying to brush them all off. The driver refused to give me his name or identification and told me to contact the phone number on the side of the truck. I said I was going to call police and he said fine, and left. I called the company and emailed them, they actually responded, but denied it was their fault even when sent the photos of the stones on the trailer. My insurance said it wasn't worth going after them even with photos because there was no police report. The cost of repair was about the same as my deductible, but I was able to get the chips repaired rather than replace the whole windshield. I filed complaints with the state police and DOT against the trucking company and have to live with that as resolution. If you really want someone else to pay you need to call the police when it happens and be willing to spend the time to wait for them.

Thanks for attending my TED talk.

I called the local PD and CHP, they said I would need a plate to pursue. I thanked them and left it at that. :)

Our area is full of rock and gravel trucks.....I always slow down or speed up as the case may be and always try to get another car, etc. between me and the potential hazard. It happens to the best of us. My last busted windshield was thrown by a riding lawnmower belching debris into the street...of all things....

A dump truck carrying rocks had some falling out and busted our Maxima windshield. We called the company and told them. They gave us a claim number and we got an original Nissan windshield put in by them. They didn't even argue.
