They snapped due to the nut being fused to the stud, and attempting to break the nut free. Liberal amount of anti seize will fix this. Torquing them down I don't think will be an issue. But we'll see. :notsure:

BTW there's a trick I learned a long time ago to remove seized fasteners when I used to build muscle cars.
If the threads are exposed, you can use a propane torch to heat up the stud or bolt. It doesn't have to be glowing red but pretty hot (hot enough to burn paint off). Then you touch some paraffin wax to the base of the thread and the heat makes the wax wick into the unexposed threads. The longer the fastener, the more heat and wax you want to apply, it shouldn't take much though. Once it cools you can double nut or vice grip that sumbitch out. I've had really good luck using this technique.
BTW, don't use soy based wax. It doesn't wick as well as standard paraffin and will just clump and run off.

Get a 2007 or later. Those years are fuel injected, 2006 and older were carbureted and can be a pain for someone just starting out (maybe that's not the case for your daughter, just pointing that out).

Steahly 9oz flywheel weight installed tonight. Clean & sand stock flywheel, then epoxy and set screw the weight on. Have to wait 24hrs then put it in the oven for 2 more.

Anybody have a Mikuni carb on their HD? Thinking about swapping the stock CV carb with one of those. I hear you can get better throttle response with the Mikuni

I don't have a Mikuni; I still have my CV. I am no expert, but in my experience, a CV can be tuned to achieve more than sufficient performance, especially when you consider cost-benefit analysis. Some new jets and a couple of washers can go a long way. But, I am a cheap ass, and that is just my opinion. Of course, this is all dependent on what other mods you have done. Just switching out or tuning the carb may get you a little more (albeit noticeable) throttle response, but won't make too much of a difference if everything else is stock.

Whatever you end up doing, let's get together and ride sometime! I'm over in Leesburg, VA.

Definitely, if i'm ever over that way ill give you a shout! But yeah, not at the top of my priority list but I think at some point i might want to give the Mikuni a shot. I have DK customs high flow air cleaner and Screamin Eagle slip-ons (the old style that they dont make anymore, SEII's i think? They say on the bottom that they're for race use only and not street legal because of noise emissions or something). Previous owner says it has a Dynojet kit but I havent pulled the carb yet to see what jets are in there.

The current basket case project and my ever so slow growing pile of parts
I hope to have a rolling chassis mocked up by the end of the month
Still in the process of collecting some odds and ends though
Some wheels and assembly hardware is up next to be sourced and or purchased
