Thinking about reinstalling my original grille just to avoid hassles for this. My closest dealer told me they were denying this and any blind spot monitor warranties on any lifted trucks. I haven’t stopped by the dealer that I bought the truck from because it’s kind of out of my way. Probably waiting a while either way just to see how all this plays out. I don’t have any issues with my TSS and China Pro grille since install about 5k miles ago. I’m not lifted yet, only because I can’t decide what I want. Lol

Guys with different grills, I think the issue may be that the part number needed will not match your grill. I think it depends on the design of the piece that is holding the sensor in place. So if you have a Pro grill, but you truck is a TRD OR, the cover you need for the Pro grill does not match your VIN so they don't have the proper parts for you. I would hope that at some point they get it figured out to order the correct part for you. Unfortunately they are probably behind on having these available right now.

When to Dealer this morning for recall, waited 1.5hrs only to be told recall work would not be done do to the fact I installed an OEM Pro Grille. Service manager told me to reinstall original grille and return and they would do it. He told me any kind of modifications, Grille, Lift, bull bar, light bar etc. would require them to deny any recall work.

Have we determined that it’s the exact same sensor on all trims? Anyone in here with a Pro affected, and if so, had the recall work performed? I’d like to see the fix on the Pro.

No one has dug up the actual step by step procedure for this yet? Where are the resident Toyota techs hiding?

Called my dealer this morning. Apparently they are having internal discussions about working on Taco's with aftermarket grills. Service writer said until they rule otherwise they are still working on modified trucks. He is trying to get the parts in before that decision is made. Fingers crossed. If not I am going to put the OR grill back on and switch out after. So ridiculous.

Part used for the recall on my aftermarket Pro grill. Stock grill is OR.

Technically it’s still the same sensor because you take it of the stock grill to put behind the Pro grill.

That one is less than 2 dollars. Why are dealers acting like its such a big deal? If I were running a dealership and knew other dealers were not doing it for guys without stock grilles, I would buy a few boxes of these and give them away. Think about the return customers you would get from that.

I just got a phone call from the dealer asking me if the truck had been modified or altered in any way. I said no, but why is that matter? I was told if it was, they wouldn't be able to do the recall tomorrow. This recall is so unorganized.

Just got my truck back from the dealership which I originally brought in for the Master Brake Cylinder recall and also my scheduled 5k maintenance. Went to pick it up and the service advisor told me that they also did the millimeter wave radar sensor reconfig as well. Knowing that some people on the forum have been denied because of this, I asked if my grill ( have the pro grill but not the special garnish as I did a custom piece in order to keep the original garnish) was an issue and they said it didn't make any difference. My truck is lifted as well and they didn't say anything about any of the mods I've done.

I am curious why you "bought" the foam thing. It is a recall item! Was that to get around a faux or poem grill or lift or did the dealer ask you to pay on a stock Tacoma?

Would you mind posting the instructions when you have a chance? I’d prefer to go this route as well. Thanks!

Add me to the list. 2018 SR5 built in December of 2017. I was told it’s a half day job.. really? To add some silly cover? Lady said it will be replaced. Sure it will be lol They can’t get me in for weeks unless I want to come in at the beginning of the day. I’d rather not have to burn any PTO for something like this. I told them if it has to be a half day then they will be looking at my shudder under light braking around 60mph on down. Might as well get my monies worth.

They don't want liability exposure if they can avoid it.
