Only 5.75" up with (what I'm assuming is) +2.5-3" pack to match the front? The front is what, 6.5-7" up? I'm looking at doing this but I had thought you'd be closer to matching the front, that's disappointing. I suppose you still get the down travel, better shock angle, better scrub radius, ability to move to 35s, and stronger components.

how do you feel about the bypasses on a more expo oriented rig? I've heard its tough to get good low speed control with them.

Read through this whole thread, there is a wealth of knowledge in here. Thanks for posting.

If you can figure out a way to get more travel with stock mount points and geometry and keep spring over, I’m all ears.

I’m always a fan of bypasses, doesn’t matter what type of rig. Low speed is easy. Just valve and adjust accordingly.

I don't know a way and I wish there was one that's the problem haha. I tow a motorcycle to track days ~8 times a year and the general recommendation seems to be stay SOA if you do any kind of towing given that all the weight is held up by the u-bolts for SUA.

You've pretty happy with the performance of your properly set up +2 and SOA though?

Staying SOA for the u-bolt loading, that’s a new one.

I’d be willing to bet a sua truck with a pair of spare tires is the bed sees far more force on its rear suspension while performing its intended task than your truck does driving a 7-900lb bike to the track.

I’m definitely happy with the performance. Shock tuning is more important than travel numbers. Lots of folks have been for a ride in my truck and can attest to it as well.

If that's the case case then why would anyone stay SOA...? Sway issues and the overload leafs? (And of course cost and convenience)

Because it’s not necessary for the performance goals of the vehicle. I have heard from multiple parties that Jason’s truck performs very well, but I highly doubt the strength of the u-bolts played into his decision to stay soa.

SUA packs are typically a lot of thinner leaf springs that allow the pack to be very flexible and have no overloads. They are also under the axle. With the pack under the axle you have to be more cognizant of picking your lines off-road in the rocks. Since the vast majority of leaf packs are progressive spring rate, the more weight or more loaded the pack is, the higher the spring rate. This can get tricky when carrying around a lot of weight all the time. My truck has a Drifter, full armor, 82qr fridge, propane tank, recovery gear, bed drawer, yadda yadda yadda 100% of the time. And if it’s a family trip, I also tow my expo trailer. It would be very difficult to build a SUA pack that could handle that kind of weight without squatting. Certainly nothing off the shelf would work. Regardless, it’s not the intension is this build. My first gen was the LT monster. Been there, done that.

Moved the ARB drawers from the trailer into the truck. And new Alu-Cab fridge slide.
