That’s an awesome idea. And probably would work for storing long guns on trips. But just from my perspective it could be problematic because I usually have two dogs in the back. So wrestling them and the seat cover out of the way to get to them would be slow to say the least.

That would be good for transporting anything of value though. Jewelry, paperwork, large sums of money, etc...

On my hip in the Tacoma. Should I be forced to stop somewhere for a long period of time that isn't America friendly, I have attached a lockable single firearm and mag safe on my molle panel behind the rear seat:

@geekhouse23 that is a really cool set up. Is this in a double cab or extended cab? Can you post more pictures of the pannels for greater understanding on what kind of storage you can do with that? Is tha pannel create a large cavern behind the seat of unusable space or does it sit pretty flush with the normal back of the cab? Who made the pannel?

    Double cab.

You remove the useless bins behind the rear seats and it opens up a whole world of possibilities.

@steveo27 , Did you end up using the mesh under tray very often. I think I had seen something like that before but had not seen one for the Tacoma before. Is the elasitc pretty strong?

Regular cab owner checking in. I put my long guns behind the front seats. I usually have a couple bags in this location so it puts the weapon at a convenient hight. If you have a soft case you can leave it partially unzippered for easy access. With the seats in position you cant even see its there. I would never leave weapons in my truck attended FWIW.

I only carry my loaded handgun on my person. AIWB, I hate the idea of unnecessary handling of my pistol in the cab of my truck in public. I dont have a comfort issue since I have a body that works for aiwb (normal height, no beer gut yet). I really dont like gun magnets, I would never trust one but I see the appeal. I have seen enough car accident scenes to know stuff flies everywhere. (Steps off soap box)

I may be popping off the plastic behind the seat of my truck now, good to know!

I carry a handgun, in a holster on my hip, every day. Sometimes concealed, but most times not. I do not have and do not want a holster mounted anywhere in my truck. If circumstances REQUIRE that I leave the handgun in the truck, it is locked out of sight inside a secured lockbox.

Think about this: When will you most likely ever have a need for the weapon? Probably not while in the truck. It won't be of any use to you when you're not in the truck, if it's in the truck.

We are creatures of habit. If I habitually keep my handgun on my hip, I will have it whenever I need it. Regardless of whether I'm in the truck or not. The reverse is also true.

When I transport any of my long guns, they are in cases behind the seat. Should I need to leave them there for a few minutes, they are out of sight. I never leave any weapons in my truck for extended periods.

To those who say they want or have a mounted holster because of comfort, I suggest that you find a comfortable holster for YOU, not your truck.

I've had different kinds of lock boxes over the years, but now I stick with very simple, but inexpensive.
This is the box I have in my Tacoma. It can't be seen from outside. That is an ABUS padlock, keyed the same as my house key, so I always have the key with me. :)

So you see, the jump seat DOES serve a purpose in an Access Cab.

About the only time I store my handgun in my truck is if I'm going through a metal detector at the DMV ect. I prefer to just stick it in the door panel, or in front of my seat on the floor board where I can reach it quickly and safely upon my return. Otherwise there is never a gun in my vehicles. I also have zero gun stickers on my truck so I'm not targeted for theft.

I do keep back up magazines in my center console for all three of the pistols in my rotation.

As far as transporting them to go shoot, hunt, ect I just fold down the rear seats and pile them in within their respective cases or bags. The Tacomas sure can haul a lot of firearms. :) You guys have some real nifty set ups. Well done!
