Norcal Spotted and BS Thread

I'm still a bbq man for steaks, when it's not pouring rain. This winter I found a recipe for steaks that I really liked. I have a cast iron skillet. Lightly coat the New York steaks in olive oil. Paste with garlic, and rosemary. Put in zip lock baggie and set for half hour or so. Then heat olive oil in the skillet until it just starts to ripple and smoke. Sear the steaks about a minute and a half. Flip for another 1 to two minutes. Then put the cast iron skillet into preheated oven at 450. Cook for 4 minutes for rare, 4 and half for medium rare. While this is taking place pour one cup of red wine into sauce pan. Add half a cup of balsamic vinegar and two tablespoons of brown sugar. Stirring. Reduce by half. When the steaks are done, rest, cut, into strips, and then drizzle reduced wine sauce over the steak. Awesome.

 

I’ve been the fortunate recipient of a number of TW deals, and all of those I didn’t keep for myself I either passed the same deal forward or just returned to the original owner. I was once ‘accused’ of not being an opportunist... fine by me I prefer good will!

I typically do olive oil, salt and pep, toss em in the pan 4 minutes per side, rest, eat.

sometimes ill do some onion strings, garlic or butter, depending on my mood.

 

As for me. I prefer mine smoked!

Lately I’ve been picking up charcoal grilling on the warmer days. I don’t really have any originality there though. I got my friend that Lodge cast iron grill that he likes. Maintenance is a bitch he says. Myself I have some generic Weber, I think.

 

Also this is blooming in my yard. I like it. But not sure what it is. I thought it was a toyon but I think the yellow flowers in the back are toyon.

 

Get your friend the Lodge Chainmail. Cleanup is a cinch.

 

^Agreed. The plastic scrapers aren't bad either, but sometimes you burn shit to much and you gotta use the chain mail
