Mattie?!? You're still with that "baja racer" I am shocked. I figured you would have seen through the race truck driver charade by now.

It's possible! I'm back on the road with the truck again but have been having weird steering issues. Yesterday I finally realized that the rack and pinion setup had skipped a tooth.

I'll be replacing my steering rack in the next 3 weeks. Fortunately I have a spare sitting in the garage. :)

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
How do you skip a tooth on a R&P steering?

At speed, get your truck into this position:

    The force will...

    bend your gusseted spindle...
    IMG_2692_9f2e8ee1439e30b9eb338e2fe1f0ba4f4ec9f16c.jpg

    IMG_2681_79d7c6ebba2f3b281bf0395dbae91d4222ab64fc.jpg

    bend your UCA mounting bolt...
    IMG_2696_4dc13775a94be3d621f3959e25de2d670631883e.jpg

and cause your steering rack to skip a tooth or two.

Worst of all is that you'll also knock out your alignment.

Make sure the truck is stuck in a hole with a 50' drop to the passenger side as well, completely freaking out your girlfriend who is in the passenger seat.

Good point. That probably did more damage than the hole in the ground. :p
