Got my CSF radiator and HPS hoses ordered. Now looking to order the FJ shroud and coolant overflow tank. Perusing the thread and reading above posts, I'm still wondering if it's worth spending a few extra bucks on the Toyota parts or if the other vendors provide decent quality at a discount. Any additional thoughts on that?

I just got the fan shroud from rock auto. Way cheaper $$, while quality-wise I cannot tell a difference from my stock Toyota one.

I got my shroud from RockAuto and tank from PartsGeek.....quality on both is AT LEAST as good as OEM.

I did the OEM thing. Not to down grade the other stuff, I’m sure it’s more than adequate to do the job. It was just my ocd kicking in and wanting to keep Toyota parts on if I could.

I am on the fence with this radiator. Although, I am about reducing engine temps, not sure if I want to go as low as 175, as I've read here. Isn't optimal temp for the 4.0 close to 185*?

Mine stays at 186 on the highway and goes up to 190 in the city with OEM thermostat and no boost.

Plz remind us again what thermostats you guys are running and if you're boosted or not. Thanks.

My CSF is ready to go in as soon as the backordered HPS hoses get here but thinking of just running the OEM t-stat as I'm not boosted; only want the extra cooling capacity to keep the truck at 185-190 on the hill up to the house and for slow, hot desert wheeling. The durability of an all-aluminum radiator is the added bonus.

190-195 unless temp above 80, then goes higher. That’s with a leaking water pump

Installing CSF radiator, water pump and 170 thermostat at the moment.

175-185 in town. 194 Max pushing it on the highway uphill. Once I got to speed limit it stayed at 187-188. Definitely worth the investment. Instant drop of about 10 degrees compared to stock radiator/thermostat.

I’ve been trying to search through the thread, how much trans fluid is lost with removing old radiator?

When doing the csf with fj parts do I reuse any weather stripping and fasteners? Or is there anything i MUST buy? Cant remember if it was only for cowboying the stock shroud.

I used 4M “small D” weather strip on the sides of the FJ fan shroud. Fits like a glove. Here are the fasteners I used (part numbers buried in thread, but the nut/bolt combo was 90179-06185):

I went Ebay. Same, cheaper than 200 for oem.
