I appreciate your feed back. I'll relay the message to the welders. Might need a better fixture for welding. Each slider has about 24 welds.

    It's getting there.
I didn’t order these, but as a union steamfitter who welds pipe for a living and fabricates shit with a mig gun for a hobby, I’m seeing some things that I’m not really sure I like about those welds.

Ideally, tube on tube fishmouths should look like this: https://images.app.goo.gl/iRCMdcHwSFxNcRhc8
And some people might even argue about puddle manipulation and whip and pause vs straight drag, but in general, I would trust my truck to the weld in the above picture.

Without some better close ups of the weld on these sliders, I’m not sure if they would hold up to the kind of look over a guy in my field might get picky about. Hopefully I’m wrong, and it’s just the powder coat throwing some weird shadows, but I couldn’t say without seeing some better pictures.

I might just be the over critical asshole anyway, even roll cages aren’t x-ray welds in most applications. I’ve even put welds that I know could have been done better if I took the time to make fixturing, and not slam bang them together in a position joint, but that was for a chase rack, not sliders. Sorry if I’m being a bad influence from an outside stand point, I’m just a guy on the internet who welds for a living, and I think it’s the best for everyone to make sure high quality welds are being laid down on a potentially load bearing part.

This. Plus honestly as DVD21 pointed out, I’m concerned about the welding. I understand that things have been in flux. But I’m unsure what I’m getting vs what I ordered.
    1. Now the ends are plastic capped. This is different from what I ordered.
    2. What is the finish going to be? Gloss black, matte black, crinkle finish? I’ve seen all three so far.
    3. I’m seriously concerned about the welding quality. What is the process if they fail? How do I seek replacement if they do fail to when my original order isn’t completed yet which is way overdue from the order date?

I really am trying to hang in with you RRW but I’m beginning to think I need to cancel my order for refund.
    What is that process?

The problem I have is who did the welding as it’s another new person. Plus now it isn’t sealed tubing but capped. What is the finish on the newest ones?

Is that bird shot or drips some how in the powdercoat?

That's a lot of splatter and some of the welds look incomplete

It looks like a few spots of splatter or it could be dirt....

From what I can see about the welds is that they look like start and finish points.

I know everyone is being super critical on these and for good reason you should be. The welds look way better than the last guys other than the splatter which I am sure they are just rushing to get orders out and not cleaning that stuff up.

If you got them for the introductory price then they are a good deal. I wouldn't spend $800 on them like they are priced now though. You don't really know what you're gonna get after all the changes in manufactures and design changes. Still one of the best looking designs out there if you can handle the many months of waiting.

    It's getting there.
Since I'm a man that puts his money where his mouth is, I did a quick little tube on plate and tube on tube fishmouth weld in my garage today to see if I can get a fair comparison.

    Caveats:
    1) I'm not certified for anything in MIG welding, only stick.
    2) Technically this is pipe, 1 1/4" stuff I had in a scrap bin.
    3) The tube on tube fishmouth was done in position. If I were making widgets like this in a production setting, I would do every weld in the flat. This test run is closer to a roll cage floor mount and door bar situation.
    4) Finding scrap, cutting, fishmouthing (by hand with a grinder), welding, paint and photos were done in about 1 hour.

Imgur album because I'm too stupid to figure out how everyone uploads pictures here.

    https://imgur.com/a/Vrn7UiZ

    Critiques:

I missed my tie in on the one side and the bottom of the tube on tube weld a little. It's an imperfection but I'm not that concerned. Travel speed and rotation/gun angle could be worked on over a few attempts to get things looking more consistent, but generally I'm pretty confident that these would be sound welds on a cage or sliders (if the material was DOM tube, not black pipe). That said, I will say that how big a deal light, shadow, and paint are in how a weld looks in a photo. As you can see in the last few, I sprayed some bedliner on them, and it changes the look of the weld completely. What does that tell us? The only way to know if a weld is sound is for a visual inspection by a CWI and radiographic testing. It's pretty much impossible to tell from a photograph. I will say that you can see where I didn't knock off all my spatter and it shows up the same in the paint as the RRW sliders, that indicates to me a bit of a rush job. If your settings are dialed in and you're banging out the same weld joint again and again spatter should be minimal and easy to knock off with a brush and file.

    Conclusion:

It's very difficult to tell without an in person inspection by a CWI (WHICH I AM NOT) if a weld is sound. I very well may be mistaken, and I harbor no ill will towards this company, I just want the members of TW to be as educated as I can make them on this subject. Do I personally think that your new sliders will break under the use that some of us might put them through? Probably not. Do I think that if I was paying this much money to any company out there I would want a level of quality such that I didn't even have to think about asking this question? ....yeah....

All I know is hopefully I'm not eating my shoe about weld quality when my C4 hybrid bumper shows up in the mail.

    UPDATE:

Our welder is going to grind off any splatter. As for the welding concerns, our welder is a certified welder. He has done big contract jobs on huge buildings. His welds will do just fine, they will not break off. The slider is pretty solid with all the support gussets & tubing.

Just dropped off another batch off to powder coating today. (View pictures below). I’ll be picking up a finished batch from powder coating and will be helping out in the warehouse to get more sliders out.

    ———————————
We’re doing our best to get these sliders out as efficiently as possible. Manufacturing these rock sliders is a very tedious process. Welding each slider up takes up a lot of time to fill in all the welds. We take our time to pack these so they can make it to your door step as safely as possible

After factoring the cost of material, labor, & cost of shipping (we offer free shipping) we’re not profiting much from these sliders (even with our new prices).

We want to manufacture quality parts for the community at a very affordable pricing. We will continue to improve our production to bring more parts for you guys.

We’re just in the beginning of the journey. We really appreciate those who decided to ride this wave with us and we are doing our absolute best to get the orders out ASAP. Like I said before, we’re going to stock sliders after we are done with this batch.
