That's the upright version, there's also a low, wide shrub like a green horta with blue flowers.

Good call! I hate having the wife name all these plants and I really only pay any attention to the ones that look cool.

That looks nifty. $20 though? That’s like 3 of their skillets.

I did think about that. But it was my screw up. I thought I would get them quicker. But, strike two.

Toyon is a native woody shrub that can get tree size. Hard serrated leaves, red berries, etc. Not toyon.

@nDub if you want an ID and you know they are native PM some closer photos of the flowers and leaves I'll get ya one. Us wildlife folks are forced to get educated on the botanical side of biology too.

Edit : scroll down before quoting

Note to self - scroll down before quoting. My bad.

@CalTacoma09 is correct. Ceanothus is a big genus though lots of species so you got to include species as he did!

My group (work) just created a new population of an endangered ceanothus species to mitigate for removal of a population for a dam retrofit project. Thought you'd dig that @nDub with your similar line of work.

Separates (shirts and pants) are easiest, especially when potty training.

    Right on thanks.

We bought this place from a master gardener who planted the front yard with CA native drought resistant plants.

This is the first spring we’ve lived here and it’s cool to see all the plants flowering.

A different master gardener come by and help me identify the plants and let me know how to maintain them. I think I need to pull my notes back out and reread them. I’ve been calling that plant a toyon to everyone...

And the yellow flowery plant in the back is a Mahonia.

Good job on creating the new population of endangered ceanothus! Apparently there is a few spots local where wild ones are blooming. I’m hoping to go check them out
