    I wouldn't say a higher spring rate is an advantage on a Tacoma, they're already over sprung.
    You are most interested in wight carrying capacity which is a factor of spring travel and spring rate. Let's try to avoid diving into this rabit hole (especially since I did the work for everyone in the AccuTune article).
    In summary a 14x650 can support more weight than 13x600, and a 14x600 can support nearly as much weight as the 14x650 (so close that there's almost never a reason to get a 650 other than appearnce).


    Correct.


    More preload increases the force needed to start compressing the shock from full extension.
    More preload does not change the additional force necessary to compress the spring/shock one more inch at ride height.


    It's VERY hard to visualize until you've done it a few times.

    When you turn the the spring collar you are preloading the spring which raises the truck...
    When the shock is installed just the spring is turning as you add or remove preload...

    FWIW @bax, if I could go back and redo things I would have followed Ryan's suggestions and gone with 14x600 instead of 14x650. But I based my choice at the time on how harsh I felt 14x700 rode and how much front end dive I had with 13x600 thinking I would split the difference. Of course the 14x600 would have dove a bit, too, but with a couple of years seat time I know now the 650 lb/in is too stiff. Just for comparison I'm running about 3.5" (left) and 3.125" (right) of preload on my 14x650 King coils at roughly 2" of lift. The collars are set with 1.5" thread showing on left and 1" on right on extended travel 2.5" IFP no reservoirs.

    When you go to the 650 spring you will have much less preload for the same lift, about 3/4" instead of over 2".....
    The advantage would be to carry more weight or run the desert with less shock valving for a smoother ride...

    I went to the 650 last year and absolutely love it off road but it's a little firm in town...
    With our limited travel I like the 650 for fast driving... On rocks it may be too stiff...
    It is faster on the dunes and forest roads with out adding stiffer valving and a more controlled feel.

    Completely agree with this assessment. I find my front suspension too stiff for rock crawling but on high speed wash board it's good. I don't do desert so the advantage is lost with me the way I use my truck, which is why I wish I'd have gone 14x600 (or ideally 14x625 if such a beast existed).

    I was just thinking that a 625 would be perfect....

    You just have to keep tweaking it...
    Now that I have the front working so good I have to revalve the rear shock, the shims just came today....

    Thanks for the suggestions and feedback everyone.
    I have a little bounce noticeable on the highway but it’s not enough to bother me. What really bothers me is how mine were advertised for 2” and settled to 1.5”.
    So it sounds like I’ll look into just getting the 14” 600lb springs.

    What is everyone doing for re-valving the shock? DIY or take it somewhere?

    Hey guys!
    Just order some Fox 2.0 coil overs for the fronts and fox 2.0 rear shocks with reservoirs in the rear.
    I’m new to lifting trucks and I also want to do it right the first time.
    I been searching but I figured I ask the fox owners.
    How should I level out my suspension in the rear? AALs, whole leaf pack, block spacers?

    For reference I don’t plan in doing crazy off-roading. I may tow my yard tractor twice a year for maintenance. No heavy usage of bed besides lawn products. (Mulch, soil, Home Depot stuff)

    I like how my current suspension rides (double can short bed sport model)

    I don’t plan on doing crazy big tires. Just normal street highway tires.


    Also what else would I need for the suspension for a good 2”,1” lift?

    Is this some sort of new development that you made, or specific to 2nd gens? When I bought my 2.5 DSC coilovers (looking for ~2" of lift) you recommended 650 lb 14" springs, added weight consists of steel sliders and hidden winch mount/synthetic winch (and possibly aluminum sliders down the road). I was told the 650 lb springs were a safer bet and that I might get coil bind with the 14" 600 lb springs. I also sent my coilovers back because the ride was way too stiff and asked if lighter springs were the right way to go and was told no, better to revalve, hence I ended up with your "street tune" and kept the 650 lb 14" springs. All of this current info seems to contradict what I had be told previously and may explain why the ride was so harsh. So now I am wondering, do need to swap to 600 lb 14" springs? Will the valving then be too soft with the lighter spring rate? Ride was stiff enough that I already wore out my stock LCA bushings at 28k miles... I am switching to Total Chaos LCA's in a week or two and will the how the ride feels once they are swapped out.

    I think if you’re just looking to level your truck you can keep your springs stock and just adjust the front to level your truck. I’m still learning about suspension so someone more experienced might provide better info.

    Just order a set of 2.5 non res standard travel. All I’m looking todo is level the truck. Fyi gen2.5, stock frontend. (No aftermarket bumper or winch.)

    Couple questions to clear up before I install.

    1) Does fox include a sway bar relocation spacers?

    2) should I install them at the shipped settings? Will this level front to stock rear leaf pack height?

    3) any tips or tricks I should know before installing. Not my first install. A couple bajakits under my belt. But all installs had there hurtles.

    1. Yes, they include sway bar spacers

    2. They are easy to adjust while on the truck so you can just install them and see where you sit, then once they settle adjust accordingly.

    3. Biggest hurdle for me was attaching the reservoirs to the mounts, finally accomplished it by just man handling them. Others suggest adjusting hose fitting at reservoir to a more friendly angle. Also, once you adjust them while on the truck, make sure they are centered/lined up where they attach to the LCA.

    Edit: just saw non res, disregard that part, you’re set.

    That was sort of my issue, I wanted 2" of lift but with the 13" 600# springs I wasn't getting there without what I felt was too much preload. Changed to the 14" 600# and it was no problem. Like I mentioned I feel it rides better and I'm ready for a little additional weight but YMMV.

    Valving is a lot more tuneable thatn springs so we're able to get be
    The realization that 14x600's can support nearly as much weight as the 14x650's is a new revelation, we didn't realize how much preload the 14x600's can take until I wrote the latest article. The coil bind was probably a concern with the standard 13" spring, but in hind sight a 14x600 may have been better for you than the 650. We've run A LOT stiffer valving & springs than you've ever had without wear issues, so I'd check if there are other things contributing to the issues you're having with LCA wear. I'll DM you for more details and get it all sorted out.

    1) yes

    2) I have the same kit as you and otherwise stock as well. I installed how they shipped, then they settled down to like 1.25" with some driver side lean. I'd suggest drive on them for a few days to let them settle, then adjust, THEN get an alignment once you're happy with the height.
    Just an FYI when adjusting mine on the truck I would lower the weight back down and stand in the door area to settle them down after each small adjustment. Otherwise you'll be chasing your tail like I was. For some reason mine would need to be settled a little after each little adjustment.
    I left my overload leafs in, and I have basically the factory rake which I like.

    3) Check your rear shocks. Mine came with the wrong bushings (common issue) and the correct bushings were in a bag. Luckily I was able to remove the incorrect ones with needle nose pliers working them out slowly, then pressed the new ones in with lube and using sockets like a press.

    Hey guys! Just got my suspensions on with 13” 600lbs springs. I was just curious what settings do you guys run for “on road”? Currently running 7 high, 2 full turns clockwise on low. And how about off road settings?

    I already had a new set of TSB rear springs so I just added a1" block . I have my RC so I ended up with a hair rake. Thats exactly what I wanted and had no effect on the ride. At about 10 miles a day I expect the rear springs to out live me .

    In need of some outside opinions on my current situation with my front suspension. Provided below are the components used and the measurements thus far.

    Weight:
    - Sliders, IFS skid and misc gear in the truck

    Wheels/tires:
    TRD Sport 17” wheels
    1” spacers
    Cooper ST Maxx (285/75r17 or 34”)

    Front:
    - fox FRS 2.5 IFP’s w/ 13”/600lbs (883-02-035)
    - icon UCA’s
    - Wheeler’s SB’s
    - CMC

    Rear:
    -icon Rxt LP’s
    -fox PS 2.0 IFP’s (985-24-196)
    -Wheeler’s SB
    -Wheeler’s u-bolt flip kit

    Measurement:
    DSF CO
    - Pre install no adj = 26 threads
    - Post install @ 21” hub - fender flat
    - Multiple adjustments made
    - Currently @ 24” hub - fender flat w/ 2-3/4” threads. Static spring length 9-3/8” and full droop length of 10-9/16”

    PSF CO
    - Pre install no adj = 26 threads
    - Post install @ +/- 21-3/8” hub - fender flat
    - Multiple adjustments made
    - Currently @ 23-13/16” hub - fender flat with 2-7/16” threads. Static spring length 9-5/8” and full droop of 10-7/8”

    Trying to dial everything in in order to get an alignment. I am as close to level as I feel comfortable adjusting. Am I pushing or beyond the boundaries to the point of possible coil bind and or damage to the internal components?

    I think I ran 4-6 clicks on both with the stock valving...
    No right answer just adjust them to your feel...
    Low speed will adjust smaller bumps and high speed bigger bumps both will effect handling...

    Off roading will be a few more clicks of high speed to max...
    The stock valving will be too soft to get crazy off road... But it rides like a cadi..........
