    Just what I wanted to hear, 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 would be good
Your description of the ride is what I would expect.

How much difference in mpg, driveability, and take off between 265 and 285. Was it really noticable?

i think 1-2 mpg loss, no difference as far as ride goes, acceleration decreased but really only noticeable when going up grades. I'm switching back because I commute a lot for work, and the 265's never let me down when offroading. Performed just the same as the 285's did.

Good to know. Im leaning towards a 2" lift with 265's because i do a lot of driving in my sales job.

I'll be able to avoid new uca's and spacers/new rims/chopping if I stick to 265/75/16's. I will be saving approx 1500 bucks, and then more on gas - not worth it for that extra inch of tire and lift IMHO.

When I bought the 285's the price difference between those and 265's was only about $60, just fyi.

I went 3". i chopped mine, it was cake, took all of 10 minutes on each side. all you need is a hand held grinder, and the thin cutting wheel, not the thick grinding one. i already had a grinder so that cost me 3.50 for the
    cutting wheel.

as for rims, look on craigslist, you can get some deals if you are not in a hurry. i actually made $75 by the time i sold my stock
sport rims on the swap. you can get b/w 300 to 400 for yours.

the uca's seem to be hit or miss, i got them, but you can always try
without first, you may not need them.

Some day I should take new pics of my truck... On the other hand it still looks the same, just dirty now.

    265/75/16's Kumho MT's on 16x8" wheels with 4" BS'ing. 3" of lift..

I'm buying new tires at the end of the year and think I'm going with the same tires but in 285/75/16, or maybe cutting, grinding and stuffing 305/70/16 Nitto Mud Grapplers, so I can listen to the loud noise.

Hard to tell because I switched bumpers, but here are 265/75/16's and then 285/75/16's.
