Searched but couldn't find anything. Is there a replacement backup camera that has 180 degree visibility? Since I don't have the cross traffic warning system, this would really come in handy in parking lots.
    Thanx.

That's hard to do when where I live in Texas 80% of the vehicles are trucks. I do use my head but every little bit helps.

You'd have to drive down the wrong way to do that cleanly for slanted spots and I HATE people that do that.

I’ve looked into them, it’s been awhile but this is one of the main (only?) suppliers for factory cams right.

They seem to use the same camera for all tailgate models. So it looks like if you were to find a better camera there would be some kind of retrofitting involved. This is just guessing our cameras are the same quality as the current tailgate models

I’d definitely like a crisper camera. The f150 is noticeably clearer (assuming some of that is also headunit related?). I don’t know why I never looked at the camera shape comparing the two. I’ll look tomorrow

What is the focus width of the current camera? Is it less than 160?

Would it be easy to replace the camera in the tailgate handle?

As funny as this sounds, I see people only using their camera, and not looking back and seeing the whole picture. You know, the way it used to be before backup cameras were available....

I only use the camera to see if there is a little kid/tricycle behind my tailgate.

On a previous truck I installed a backup camera. It was advertised as being a hundred eighty degree field of view. It was at best 90°. So I ordered a lens off of eBay. It did not cost very much. I did some research on how to size the lens to get a really wide field-of-view. The key is to know if you have a 1/3 or 1/4 inch chip. Anyway I unscrewed the old lens and screwed in the new lens. I adjusted the lens for focus with blue thread lock on the threads. It worked really well. The thread lock kept the lens water proof and in its proper spot for focus.

Just looking at the stock Tacoma lens it looks like it might unscrew. It might be a simple matter of switching out the lens. It should only cost a few dollars for a new lens.

So how in the world would I find out the video chip size?

It could be 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2. I think the thread size is m12 for most of these types of cameras. I think if you went with a very short focal length lens that is fish eyed in appearance you will come out with a very wide angle. I would get one with the IR filter. Maybe something like this:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/220-Degree...360-Video-VR-Panoramic-HD-Camera/263183631583

The questions are if the original lens will unscrew and if so is it a M12 thread size and if the new lens will adjust down far enough to be focused. Bit of a gamble but the lens do not cost much.

Do I need to remove the camera to unscrew the lens? Thanx for all your input.
