I'm an owner of 2019 Tacoma that has been modified. Pcs works fine and its ridiculous they wont perform the recall to keep it working. SAD! Not that Toyota cares but it will be my last truck I buy from them.

Yeah, and that saddens me because I've been a loyal Toyota customer for many years. I guess the only solace in this is the GM, Ford and others would most likely be taking the same position. Remember the chit storm with VW and their misleading MPG deal. They are all cut from the same cloth.

I just disabled it in my 18 with the faux grille - the manual says you should turn the system
off for multiple reasons, one of which says tires larger than supplied or something like that. So technically they have already covered their ass to a certain extent, but can see why they want to go further.

You know one thing I can’t understand, companies that design vehicles and trucks that are easily modified should gear their thought process more towards people that do in fact modify them.

You know how many car companies design and advertise vehicles that are extremely capable Offroad yet explicitly state that Offroad use is not recommended. I completely understand that it’s a legal thing and they don’t want to be responsible when stuff goes wrong, but If they were at least a little more helpful and open minded to owners that have modified vehicles it would open up the flood gates of possibilities and growth for the company in that segment.

Not even the “trail rated” Jeep stands by their product in that regard. The same company then named one of their models after a famous Offroad Trail.

It’s downright outrageous that Toyota can literally label a truck “off road” then not want to cover anything pertaining to off road use.

I’m not saying the warranty should cover all off road use and accessories. But at least be open minded as a company when a large portion of your buyers enjoys modifying the vehicles they purchase from you. THE SAME VEHICLE YOU ADVERTISE ON AN OFF ROAD TRAIL IN YOUR COMMERICALS.

It’s like Chevy having a commercial of the Silverado towing a load of lumber, then saying that Towing lumber voids your warranty...

I have a 2" lift, bigger tires, and an OEM Pro grill not meant for my trim level. My dealership still preformed the recall. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah but if it "fails" and you get into an accident, they most certainly will hold themselves blameless due to the mods.

Trust me, Toyota does not want to take such things to litigation. There are many things an injured party could use against them. Plaintiffs lawyers could argue the truck is advertised as an Off Road vehicle which by it's nature is desirable to modify to accommodate particular users preferences; wittiness that some dealers make such modifications to new vehicles prior to sale. Plain and simple the sensor can fail based on it's design. Toyota engineered it and put it into vehicles they sold to the public and made no warnings to the affect that putting tires with one inch more height or loading the bed to the specified capacity would render it unsafe.

The manual actually does say to turn PCS off when larger tires are installed.

Those all seem perfectly reasonable, especially the $800 grill...

While it is rare, it has happened before with consumer vehicles. IE, boats, atvs, cars, trucks, etc. I stated in the post you quoted as it would be unlikely, but it has occurred. The likely scenario is that the dealer says nope to the repair until you return vehicle to factory stock condition. It is and will be a very sticky situation with the dealer installed lift kits. You can say "hey I bought the damn thing that way and you (the dealer) installed the lift now fix my damn radar" and the dealer says "but but but Toyota says we can't". The problem is A) Toyota corporate is taking an ultra conservative safe approach and B) consumers bought a vehicle that is easily and commonly modified with mostly aftermarket and some OE parts and the two sides have collided. And C) the inept/lazy dealers don't want to do the warranty/recall type work as it pays less. How this is ultimately resolved remains to be seen. For what it's worth I can see where both sides are coming from, but I'm tending to side with the consumer on this particular issue.

I wonder if i can get multiple tacoma nameplates for every panel just so everyone knows what truck im driving. Most of my time driving is spent yelling out my window the model of my truck and this would help alleviate it.

That seems ideal. It also looks like the doors were debadged, so it only makes sense to pay for the re-badge.

Just get an entire wrap with the worlds Tacoma printed everywhere. Problem solved. And you could save your voice by getting “I have a Tacoma” recorded and installing a PA system on the truck that plays it on repeat really loud.

Hahaha...the “auto glass guy” is likely to be slightly less educated than the Toyota engineers and lawyers, and probably isn’t going to cover any liability for resultant accidents.
