No one will ever make a matte color option. They look terrible when you get dirty, wash them, touch them, scratch them... Clear coat is necessary on a vehicle. The closest you'll ever get is a color with no metallic flake, like quicksand, voodoo blue, cavalry blue, cement (gray) and this army green.

One way to think of it, high gloss means no texture, matte implies that there's some texture. Throw mud against an extremely textured surface (like truck bed liner) and it'll be impossible to truly clean and get out. Matte paint jobs have the same effect, and will always look dirty forever after you get them dirty. Spots like bird poop and sap from trees will be a lot harder to care for.

I’m not a fan of the Army green. Then again I thought I’d like Quicksand on the 3rd gen but in person I felt it was to pastel for the truck. I guess I’ll see how I feel when they start running around.

    I agree about the matte.

Wish the Aussie colors would come back Inferno and that Toyota blue, plus a green (like this) and the old Navy Blue.... 3rd gen in Navy blue would be neat. I miss my Inferno SR5, getting hit wasn't bad enough, but having no fun color options for replacement.... Rude. Lol

They used to make Yellow Desert Runner and Pro4X frontiers.... Kinda cool. Pretty early 2000s vibe though.

Looks good but Spruce Mica is still my favorite green for the Tacoma.

Like others have said, some companies offer matte now and it looks amazing in person over a cheap wrap job. However there are a lot of caveats like you're not supposed to wash them yourself, etc, etc. If anything, you could always wrap your truck in Xpel Stealth which will protect your paint AND give you a matte finish.

I think this would look awesome on my inferno.

Matte paint looks stupid on a vehicle (no offence). It’s ok looking and ‘different’ for a couple months, but after that it starts looks a little “try-hard”, at least to my eyes.

Also......matte paint shows trail pinstriping like you would not believe. It strictly a mall-crawler finish. Any actual time off road will destroy it.

Toyota was wise not to make this truck matte green. It’s much superior as a glossy finish, unless you are actually hiding from the Russians on the Western Front.

Wish they would fix the approach angle in the rear, I always hit my hitch. I might make a custom rear bumper on my next one. The Edmond show picture in the weird lighting looks more like a house paint color :( The electric seat is the biggest thing I want, then my short wife and my tall ass hopefully fit better.

I feel these images are enhanced, look at the Edmond photos and the color looks less rich in color.

May have to call some of my friends at a big defense contractor and see if they have any surplus CARC paint mixed up from production overrun. Have a real .mil green tacoma.

I work at a site that has Milverados in flat green at it. You would not believe the effort spent scrubbing birdshit off that paint by the cadets. Each bird dropping represents like 3 hours of effort to remove.

I've worked around my fair share of military vehicles (Used to work for OshKosh Defense). Yeah, it sucks ass to get sticky stuff off that paint by hand. But you can also just powerwash the hell out of it.

Yeah. For sure. I guess my warning is just to fellas who think matte paint is all baddass without actually thinking through what a high maintenance finish it actually is.

Top Gear had a similar rant about the BMW matte paint on the M series vehicles a few years ago.

But who cares about that when you have free cadet labor?
