@Empty_Lord what is the approx lead time in 2nd gen frames at your dealer? Once its failed, ordered and new frame at the dealer? I knocked a hole in my dads 08 last night, bigger than 10mm, just wondering if we should get it in now, or wait until next oil change this summer. The exp date on the warranty for this truck is Aug of 2020 btw.

They’ll probably let you drive still if the frame isn’t falling apart

Thats my main question, apparently it varies from dealer to dealer whether or not they keep it for the entire process. Guess Ill call the service manager at mine later today. Cause if its a 3 month lead time, may aswell get it inspected and approved sooner rather than later.

I am calling corporate next week i think to see what options are
the dealer service manager gave me their number after I paid them an 'unfriendly' visit regarding my front diff drain plug they rounded out real bad sometime in past 2 decades

Frame issues stopped for the most part by the 2010 model year.

Get it in now, they’ll give you a loaner. It’s usuallt a few weeks. The swap itself only takes 2-3 days. Bring new suspension parts if you wanted it... they usually won’t charge extra because it makes the job easier.

“So far”. They do seem to be holding up better. And the 1st gen replacement frames seem to be holding up really good too.

They might let you drive it. Just depends where it’s rotted. I’m assuming it’s by the front of the frame on the driver or passenger side next to the bellhousing

Weld failed right near the crossmember on the passenger side. The pass side cat area is bad, but not busting through. 0411191942.jpg

If it were me I'd start the process asap, given how much trouble I've heard of some guys on this forum having with Toyota (dealers and corporate) when it comes to getting approved for a new frame. Would hate to prolong it too much and run into pushback by Toyota and then have the program expire.

That right there is straight proof that the frame doesn't have to look terrible on the outside to be terrible on the inside, it doesn't look bad at all to the eye but is rotting inside out.
